He serves on board of directors for a variety of community organizations including The Hub of Bakersfield, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (Kern County Chapter), and Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Business Education Foundation. When he’s not working or serving our community, you can find him traveling the world and hanging with his family, which includes wife Carla, 4-year-old son Julian, 1.5-year-old daughter Gianna Sol.

President Jim Damian and Sargent at Arms pro tem Nick "Booniack" Boone welcomed us back with a New Year celebration and a look back at Downtown Rotary in 2022. It included the following:
An update in politics from Cathy Abernathy, who announced a consensus pick for speaker, Ben Taft.
A financial update from Moneywise Guys Justin Leland and Garro Ellis, who reminded us about inflation in 2022, the housing slump, loan forgiveness, and encouraged us to buy crypto. The word of 2022 and 2023 will be “transitory,” they said, and reminded us that inflation started rising as soon as President Jim took over.

$43,650: Contribution made by our club in 2022 to local and international projects.
1st: Woman to serve as Sargent at Arms, Toni Harper
1st: Woman to be in line to serve as president, Kristen Beall Watson.

In 2023, Downtown Rotary will continue its goodwill with the Rotary Reads project, providing take-home libraries for disadvantaged youth in downtown Bakersfield.
And we’ll continue the celebration: Centurion Celebration will take place March 10 at Stockdale Country Club, honoring Downtown Rotary’s 103 years with an upscale evening. Ticket and sponsorship opportunities will be available starting next week.
After discussing our words of the year with our tablemates, President Jim and Nik finished by leading a countdown and toast for 2023.
