The oil and gas industry contributed approximately $197 million in property tax revenue in Kern County during FY 18-19, Further, seven of the top ten taxpayers of property taxes in Kern County during 2018-2019 are from the oil and gas industry.
Kern County Oil and Gas by the numbers: 2.3 million acres - existing and potential drilling land, largest oil-producing county in California
- Kern County produces 80% of the State's oil and natural gas and houses 78% of all wells
- 14, 213 Kern County residents are directly employed by the oil and gas industry
In 2013, a CEQA study was done to cover oil drilling in Kern County and provide a streamlined process for getting new wells permitted. The County was sued and subsequently, the document is being revised to meet the requirements of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. At this time, the enhanced permitting process is on hold until the Environmental Impact Report is updated.
Kern Citizens for Energy (KCE) is a local coalition of leaders and County citizens who support local oil and gas industry. KCE exists to dispel misinformation surrounding the industry while educating the community on its important role in our daily lives.
