Good News & Announcement

The Program

Pat Collins introduced the Jeff & Jeff show, starring Jeff Green and Jeff Gutierrez. They shared with us their adventures biking the Camino de Santiago (in English; Way of Saint James) in Spain. Their adventure buddy, Lea Carter and Jeff Green's son, Andrew,  joined them on the 272km ride.

There are many routes for the Camino beginning all over Europe. There's began in one of the final legs of the journey in the city of Astorga. The end of the journey ends in the coastal city of Santiago de Compostela, where, according to legend, the body of Saint James lies.

You actually start your journey with a passport, and you collect stamps along the way, at restaurants, pubs and hotels. It also serves to document your travels and serves as proof that you completed at least 200km. By doing so you get a certificate of completion in Santiago de Compostel.

The scallop shell is the official symbol of the Camino and can be seen dangling from backpacks and necklaces. It is also appears on sign posts and markers along the way.

Jeff Green talked about the rules of the road, and the many interesting people you meet along The Way. There is a stone hill you'll encounter along the way, tradition holds that you bring a small rock with you to throw upon the hill, symbolizing the unburdening of worries. Unfortunately the two Jeffs failed to read up on that, so Jeff Gutierrez hopped a fence to a backyard along the way and procured a few. This, probably after the bottle of wine they consumed daily at lunch.

Jeff Green crashed once, but otherwise everyone arrived in tact and had a great time.

The main purpose of the ClubRunner directory, particularly for new members, is to facilitate interaction within the club. That's why it's important you have a good head shot there. The windows in the gallery are small; so tight headshots are necessary if the images are to be identifiable. Ken Secor will be available for several more meetings to take photos, but members who prefer their professional headshots or have a good-quality photo against a plain background are urged to email them to Ken at ksecor@lightspeed.net, heck, he'll even post them for you! We can't make it any more easier for you than that!
Jeff Gutierrez, Lea Carter and Jeff Green shared their Camino de Santiago adventure with us.
Their leg of the journey is highlighted in pink.
Tracy Kiser was our guest president today, and did an outstanding job.
The bike jersey they bought, but apparently did not wear.
Jeff Green's Camino passport and symbolic scallop shell.
Jeff Green did most of the talking (shocker), Jeff Gutierrez held the map, that is, until Jeff Green took it from him and hid his face with it.
Jeff Green shows off the official certificate you get upon completion.
