Andrae Gonzalez announced the Grand Opening of the new David Nelson Pocket Park located at 1511 Niles Street. The event will be on October 26th at 10:00 am. The park is named in honor of David Nelson, BPD Officer killed in the line of duty.
Mike McCoy announced 4 Ribbon Cuttings this week at the Museum, celebrating the restoration of 4 buildings on the property.
Ben Taft announced a new way for Downtown Rotarians to mix and mingle after work hours. The first Pop Up Party will be held at the home of Rogers Brandon on October 25th from 5:30 – 7:30. The first 25 Rotarians that sign up get to go. If you miss out on this one, be on the lookout for the next Pop Up Party.

El Porvenir, Virtual Clean Water Project presented by Steve Sanders, Sue Benham, Bob Burdett and Jeff Gutierrez
Our Club has supported this project in Nicaragua for the last several years. Nicaragua is the 2nd poorest County in the Western Hemisphere. Our first visit was in 2013 and the project was to build accommodations so that residents could take showers using clean water and it also provided clean water for washing clothes. This location in Nicaragua has special meaning for our Club as it is a place that had been visited by Wendy Wayne.
The way that El Porvenir works is that the residents in the community must participate in the labor of building or constructing the projects. During the second visit, our group, along with the village residents built latrines. The cost to build the latrines is about $500 each.
All who presented today would agree these opportunities were indeed life changing.
Due to the current political unrest in the Country, it is no longer safe to travel to the area. Therefore, President Ray is asking that we support them financially. The goal is to raise approximately $12,000 to build 30 or so latrines for the 83 residents in the nearby village.
President Ray assured the group that he is comfortable in providing monetary support and that the money will go directly to the building projects and will not get siphoned off by the corrupt government. El Porvenir has an office in Denver which is where the money will be sent and then directed to the project.
