Thanks to his week's correspondent:
Leslie Golich
Guest Editor Profile: Leslie Golich
Leslie Golich is the Director of Public Affairs and Brand Communications for Kaiser Permanente. She became a member of THE Rotary Club of Bakersfield in 2015.  She serves on a number of non-profit boards and enjoys volunteering in the community. She also enjoys supporting local theatre and swims for the Gold Wave Master's Program at CSUB.  She and her husband Greg have been married for 36 years and they have 2 grown children.

Pre-Program

In memory of the victims of Hurricane Katrina, President Garro shared a video with us about Warren Easton High School in New Orleans, LA and how the Rotary Community from across the States rallied to refurbish the school.  Katrina made landfall on this day in 2005 and is the costliest hurricane on record at $125 Billion.

Invocation – Ken Beurmann
Flag Salute – Jeff Chandler
Song – Jim Baldwin

Guests of Lynn Blystone included his wife of 55 years, Patti, and their son Jon.  President Garro then proceeded to grill Lynn about the facts of his life.  Where did he grow up?  What school(s) did he go to?  How did he end up in Bakersfield?  How did he get into the oil and gas industry?  Fortunately for Lynn, he got the answers to all the questions correct!

Once again, Michael Lukens was the guest of Lynnette Zelezny.

Who knows what is happening on Wednesday, October 2nd?  Well, of course, it is the famous Barbich Margarita Party with Lou’s famous margaritas.  Sheryl promises you won’t be disappointed.  Sign up with Mary.

Also, please sign up for the All-Club family fun night at the BLVD which is Thursday evening, September 12th.  Do not confuse this with our off-site lunch meeting on the 12th as well at World Records.

Program :

Our guest speaker was Lilly Kenneally who is the Kern County Fair Event Coordinator.  She is new to Bakersfield but not new to the Fair industry.  She knows her stuff and is passionate about her work.  It’s not just the Fair, it is OUR Fair.  There are some new events and items this year.  The Frontier Stage is a new venue, there will be new food, including Dole Whip (just like Disneyland), new activities, games for all ages, “Bugology” – connecting kids to nature and The Stilt Circus will bring new energy to the Fair.  No chickens!!  Last years attendance was approximately 440,000.  The most unusual fried food is probably their chocolate-covered pickles.  There are some new healthier options and yes, the Boy Scouts will be back with their famous baked potatoes!

Lilly emphasized that the work at the Fairgrounds goes all year long.  When the Fair is over, they still have lots of events at the location.  Everything from wedding receptions, concerts, business parties, and special guest events.

Good News and Announcements

Jessie Lopez promises the Boy Scouts will be dealing thousands of spuds from this shack.
When it was time for the Q&A portion, Jeff Chandler forgot he was in charge of mics.

Lilly Kenneally can't wait to wear her sweatshirt...  four months from now.
