Program:

The Program was presented by the District Governor Marta Brown, after being introduced by District Secretary Kay Pitts. Governor Brown started by welcoming the club to the 2023 year and sharing the four initiatives of Rotary International President Gordon McInally. On the top of the list of initiatives is fostering peace by asking all Rotarians around the world to live faithfully by the four-way test. Secondly, prioritizing mental health by fostering strong relationships and checking in on fellow club members, then helping as we are able. Third, creating a welcoming club experience in every club by fostering hospitality to visitors and guests. Fourth, pushing polio eradication to the finish line by ending the dreadful disease once and for all this year. There were only nine cases worldwide last year. We are close but not there yet.

Next, the club was presented with information on The Rotary Foundation. In 2022-23, Rotary funded 1,100 global grants, 470 district grants, and 310 disaster response grants. The total raised worldwide was more than $427 million used to help communities thrive through sustainable, life-changing projects. The club was encouraged to continue to look for projects which can have a lasting impact on our community. Clubs are being asked to have at least one project focused on literacy and one project focused on mental health.

The presentation concluded with a reminder of the October 20-21, 2023 District Conference and a reminder that January 13, 2024, is Mid-Term for the program year.

True dat.
When you own a HAVC company, not only can you find the hidden controls to any HVAC unit in the universe, but you also can commandeer them without permission. Dave Whelden: "I got hot."
In attempt to schmooze then District 5240's District Governor, Wade Namura, Downtown Rotary bought a truck load of his books. Now available for free while they last.
Fun Fact about past District 5240 District Governor: Wade has been inducted into the Japanese American Hall of Fame for his creation and racing of the Nomura Racing BMX bike, on which he won multiple BMX national championships.
