Andrea Hansen
Andrea Hansen is an arts administrator, wife, mother, and fellow Rotarian living in Bakersfield. She is the Executive Director of the Kern Dance Alliance, an advocacy organization supporting and promoting the arts in California’s Central Valleys. She also serves on the boards of The Historic Bakersfield Fox Theater and the CSUB Arts and Humanities Executive Advisory Committee. She spends her free time with her family (husband- Michael, Alex- 8 and Hannah -6) and friends creating new memories, supporting community, and always finding time to dance.
Visiting Rotarian: Andrae brought Raphael - District Manager from Cal Waterand a fellow West Rotarian.
Good News & Announcements:
1. Joe Hay can spell t-a-r-i-f-f-s and announced that Ford is lowering the price of vehicles with the same price offered to Ford Motor Company employees.
2. Clinton accepted the Good Neighbor Award for the Salvation Army's work with the Borell Fire.
3. Andrae was proud to announce that Pismo has moved to Bakersfield with the Pismo-based company, Hoagies, now serving Bakersfieldians. He was excited to announce that Bakersfield, specifically downtown, is becoming "stronger".
4. Rotary ALL CLUB meeting at CTEC - April 10 with Lynda Resncik as the guest speaker.
WHERE IN THE WORLD. . . JAPAN!
Japan has 2200 Rotary clubs and over 80,000 members. 11th most populated country in the world, 146,000 square miles, a constitutional monarchy, one of the largest economies, and a global leader in electronics. Japan will pay 24% in tariffs to the US. They are the land of the rising sun, 1500 earthquakes annually, Cherry Blossoms come from Japan, and slurping noodles is not rude, it's a sign of gratitude. Japan boasts the longest life expectancies in the world, and they eat Kentucky Fried Chicken at Christmas!

Bakersfield City Ballet Artistic Director, Erica Uebberoth, explained
Bakersfield City Ballet (BCB) Bakersfield’s premier pre-professional ballet company inspiring and enriching our community with performances and fostering a love for the arts in youth through dance. Our focus is on performing classical and contemporary ballet. BCB contributes to the development of Bakersfield’s rich culture by bringing the beauty of dance to more lives through annual performances. BCB is passionate about turning BCB into a professional company, leveraging their artistic prowess at a level not currently available in Kern County.
BCB delighted Rotarians by performing excerpts from the 19th century ballet, La Bayadere, choreographed by famous choreographer Marius Petipas. Soloist, Chloe Bickford, also performed a solo from "Into the Deep", a work created by Emily Ramirez, about the vastness of the ocean and the world's ever-changing tides.
