Good News & Announcements

Pat Collins (chairman of the Waterman Foundation), announced the Waterman
board, recognizing and responding to immediate needs in our community, wanted to provide needed funds to local organizations.

Although, there will be ongoing request for donations to support the foundation and this cause, and recognizing many organizations are in need, the board's decision was to respond now.

The board decided to Grant $10,000 to three organizations: Dignity Foundation, Memorial Foundation, and the Homeless Center.

Funds are restricted to help offset any capital investment needs in the fight against COVID-19.

This is above and beyond the annual GRANT giveaway ( which committee will be making their decisions soon).

Also, President Elect, Ken Beurmann, has submitted a request to Rotary District Foundation in order to utilize District Designated Funds, which will match our club donation for "Food for the Frontline" through Kern
Community Foundation.

Dave Morton announced after 23 years he is leaving AC Electric to work with Sullivan Petroleum. So, next time you're picking up a six pack at Sully's, look for Dave behind the register.

Program

Dale Oprandy from Inclusion Films joined us today.   Inclusion Films is a company started in 2007 by filmmaker Joey Travolta (brother of John Travolta) that aims to teach the art of film making to people with developmental disabilities.

There are five locations in California as well as traveling camps for youths with autism. The first school opened in Sacramento in September 2013; other locations include Bakersfield, Livermore, and Burbank, California.

He shared a "behind the scenes" short documentary where actors and technicians who worked on Inclusion's first feature film, shared their stories of what it was like. The film is called Carol of the Bells and it is the world's first feature film with up to 70% of the cast/crew having a developmental disability.  It is the story of a young man with a troubled past seeking out his biological mother. His world is turned upside down upon discovering that she is developmentally disabled. Unable to work through this new discovery on his own, the man's wife takes matters into her own hands forcing her husband to face the truth and heal the past.
Ken Jones didn't realize having your video off is not the same as "muting" one's self. We were quite entertained by his off camera conversations.
Apparently, one of our Rotarian's is in the Witness Protection program.
One Travolta is an incredible visionary that uses his talents and influence to help developmentally disabled people to work in the film industry, the other Travolta is a somewhat talented actor that believes that a human is an immortal, spiritual being (thetan) that is resident in a physical body. The thetan has had innumerable past lives, some of which, preceding the thetan's arrival on Earth, were lived in extraterrestrial cultures.
