This day in history
Wham-O toy company rolled out the first batch of Frisbees. Named for William Frisbie, who owned a pie company and university students used to throw the pie tins and yell “Frisbie” so people wouldn’t get hit. The pie tins then morphed into the plastic discs we know today.

Program
Lisa Amarillas from the Kern County Public Health Department shared their new program with us called “Know Your Numbers”, a FREE 6-week program to help Kern County residents get healthier. Currently, Kern County is rated #1 for deaths from Heart Disease and Diabetes. The Know Your Numbers campaign includes a nurse evaluation who measures your BMI (body mass index), blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar. A pilot program in Buttonwillow demonstrated positive results with the pilot group improving their numbers from all their baseline screenings.
In addition, Lisa shared with us how to help keep our New Year Resolution(s). Set SMART Goals – be Specific, make the Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. You will have much more success. Good Luck and Keep it up!
