Program:
The program was presented/facilitated by Emily Hay. The owner of The Playful Space which is a creative studio dedicated to everyday play for self-discovery. Emily began the presentation by discussing how important it is for all humans to play and how play, even for adults, leads to happier and fuller lives. As a selling point to the club, she also stressed how proper play can help increase creativity and ingenuity in business. She then challenged the club to spend the rest of the meeting participating in some playful exercises.
The club then gave each member time to write complete “I am” statements on a note card. The statements could not describe one’s professional or familial role. After everyone was done with their cards one member from each table was asked to present to the entire club what they had done with their particular card.
Michael McCoy started off the sharing by telling us he is selling off his collection of cars, except his 62 Dodge pickup which is off-limits. He is also now responsible for the two dogs left from his son’s recent breakup.
Steve Illingworth shared that he is going pheasant hunting.
Jean-Luc Slagle shared that he is "good cologne and nice watches and fiction books.
Sean Hart shared that he is woodworking carbide circles of life and time.
Andrea Hansen shared that Mayor Goh told her to do it for her whole table. She shared we are mountains, growing, music, things that make life better.
The presentation ended with how we can incorporate play into our lives as adults. We can be Aware by looking for playful moments that are all around us.
Intentional by providing ourselves with time, space, and opportunity.
Process by not being afraid to play, mess up, learn then repeat.
Habit by keeping in mind that the mor we play the more playful we become.
