Program:

History Day Presentation: “The Vietnam War Memorial – A Story of Conflict and Compromise”
By Madeline Abernathy

Miss Abernathy offered an intriguing and emotionally rich telling of the story of how the Vietnam War Memorial came into existence. Madeline began with a grieving mother, Emogene Cupp, who was still reeling at the loss of her son (1968) a decade after his death. Miss Abernathy then depicted the passion of Jan Scruggs, a veteran committed to honoring those who paid the ultimate price in Vietnam. She then offered insight to some of the controversies surrounding the design, proposal and building of the Memorial through the eyes of the architect, Maya Lin. Ultimately, Madeline Abernathy reminded us of the power of healing orchestrated through this moving memorial in Washington, DC.

History coach, John Hefner and former principal of Fruitvale Jr. High, gives a passionate speech at the conclusion of Madline's presentation.

Madeline portrayed each of the main characters in her narrative, going so far as changing clothes.
President Ray was confident UNIGLOBE Golden Empire Travel assisted Pat Collins and his family’s travel plans…not “Kern Travel.”
Al Patel is traveling to India to make sure our grant money is being put to good use.
Sheryl Barbich promises good Rotarian fellowship at the "pop-up" party being held at her house. Oh, and cocktails as well.
Dick O’Reilly invited us to the Military Officers Association of America banquet being held at Hodel's.
