Program

Deanna Blaise 2024 BWBC Chair:
The Bakersfield Women's Business Conference (BWBC) has been a beacon of empowerment for women in the community for over three decades. Founded in 1989 by Phyllis Hullett, then Director of Student Services at Bakersfield College, the BWBC aimed to address the needs of women at various stages in their careers. The conference offers a platform for information sharing, skill development, and encouragement through workshops, networking opportunities, and inspiring keynote speakers. The first of these speakers was Georgette Mosbacher, the owner and CEO of La Prairie Cosmetics, setting a high bar for future events.

The BWBC has continuously evolved to meet the needs of its attendees. In 1993, a Career Development Center was added thanks to the initiative of the conference, providing attendees with valuable resources for personal job skills assessment and resume evaluation. Recognizing the importance of mentorship, Dr. Bobbie George established the R.O.S.E. Mentoring Program in 1994. This program, with its acronym standing for Realizing Options for Student Excellence, pairs approximately 75 high school girls with mentors for job shadowing experiences. The BWBC's commitment to women's success extends beyond the conference itself. In 2001, the organization joined forces with the California Elected Women's Association for Education and Research (CEWAER) to create the First Women of Kern Project. This project aims to identify and celebrate the achievements of pioneering women who have shaped Kern County's history.
Every aspect of the BWBC is designed to encourage, educate, and empower women. The conference offers a valuable opportunity for women to connect, learn, and grow. If you're interested in participating in this inspiring event, mark your calendar for Tuesday, April 30, 2024!
