Rocky Mountain High National Park

Park Ranger Leland presented his park of the week :  Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado which has a 13,520 ft peak.  Ranger Leland pointed out this is less than Mt. Whitney in California at 14,505 which he attempted to climb but came up 200 ft short.

VISITOR

Clinton Trimmer from the Salvation Army is hoping to become a member by osmosis through Dave Weldon.

GOOD NEWS

Park Ranger Leland sadly admitted the loss of his Packers to the 49ers this weekend and fulfilled a promised gift of a Packers stock certificate (now worth $5 on eBay) to Sam Newland. Meanwhile Garro Ellis, another disappointed Bills fan, volunteered $200 to  the Waterman  Foundation if the 49ers DID NOT MAKE THE SUPERBOWL.  In spite of his new found wealth, Newland declined to take Ellis up on his challenge.

John Schuler proudly proclaimed another grand baby. Congratulations!

PROGRAM

Cindy Von Bibber, Cemetery Director for the Bakersfield National Cemetery, spoke about the National Cemetery program.  The program is administered by the Veterans Administration Department and has 155 cemeteries throughout the country with over three million graves. Veterans from the past 12 wars starting with the Revolutionary War are buried in these cemeteries.   Any veteran and family members are provided free burial and headstone.  The cemeteries are open 24/7 year round.  The Bakersfield cemetery was formed in 2009 and is one of eight in California.  It is located east of Bakersfield on 500 acres of land donated by Tejon Ranch.   Ms. Von Bibber stated only 12% of veterans take advantage of the services offered and was trying to promote them with outreach to the community.  For more information call 800-535-1117.

Park Ranger Leland closed the meeting at 1pm.
More Super Bowl trash talking and betting. One way or another, Waterman is getting $200.
