WEEKLY BULLETIN • MARCH 22, 2018
Thanks to his week's correspondent:
JEFF JOHNSON
President Steve opened the meeting at the Boys and Girls Club gymnasium at 12:10pm and pronounced today as National Goof Off Day.

Jesse Lopez prayed for rain,  Andy Barkate saluted the flag and Jordan Kaufman led us in song acapella.  Two guests were introduced:  Barry Hill, guest of Steve Roach and Zane Smith, Executive Director of Boys and Girls Club.  Zane was thanked for hosting our lunch and presented with a $1,000 check.

Sheryl Barbich introduced our 100th new member:  Mike McCoy, the executive director of the Kern County Museum – a long time Rotarian and native Bakersfieldian

Jordan Kaufman bragged about his son achieving Eagle Scout status which, of course, caused President Steve to "one-up" him  boasted his son had achieved Eagle Scout status at age 17 1/2!

Stefanie Wickensheimer, executive assistant for Rio Bravo Ranch, presented the history of the  Ranch. Henry Miller (Heinrich Kreiser) immigrated to the US in 1846 from Germany and ultimately owned 1.4 million acres stretching the length of California.  She shared with us how the early generations of the Nickel Family were tied to Kern County back to the 1800’s. George Nickel, being a long time member of Bakersfield Rotary and grandson of Miller. She  spent some time on how the family decided to plant olives among their citrus operation. She  described the harvest and milling aspect of olive processing as each member tasted various olive oils. Rio Bravo grows seven different varieties on 50 acres at the old Merle Haggard home. She brought several different olive oil varieties for members to sample which can also be tasted at the offices on Hwy 178 at Coseree’s Kitchen Deli.

Pres Steve closed the meeting a 12:40pm and reminded us we will be dark next week.
Stefanie Wickensheimer is the executive assistant for Rio Bravo Ranch.
A crowded dias.
Zane Smith, Executive Director of Boys and Girls Club, hosted our lunch and was also a benefactor of a check for $1000 from our club.
Jeff Johnson, editor and hero of the day next to our tireless photographer, Girish Patel. Ray Watson no doubt schmoozing the pair into working for his upcoming administration.
President Steve displays the stuff that comes in the New Member Swag Bag to new member Mike McCoy.
