The Program
Lyle Martin stopped by to give us an update on crime in Bakersfield. Starting with the approved budget for this year. A total of $88,461,335 will cover areas such as Administration, Operations, Investigations and Animal Control.
New for 2017 such things as Crisis Intervention. This program would monitor kids who may have witnessed Domestic Violence with their parents. This would possible cause them to act out in school, resulting in expulsion. The Crisis Intervention team would try and counsel the kids prior to them returning to school.
Lyle isn't thrilled about the police having to manage Animal Control. Nevertheless, his department was responsible for 1,343 pet adoptions.
The police department's community relations programs continue to do well. The include; Neighborhood Watch, Car Seat Installation, Senior Citizen Programs, Children's Programs, Teen Programs and Business Programs.
One very special project is the yearly Easter Egg Hunt put on be the bomb squad. What makes it special is that it's for visually impaired children. The eggs "beep" to help the kids locate them.
