Colleen McGauley was boasting with pride as she announced the new group of 21 community leaders that will start their CASA training on Saturday January 21, 2017.
Mike “Willieboy” Willis and his wife just sold their house with the desire to live downtown. He is now the Manager of the 17th Place Townhomes at 17th Street between “O” & “N” Streets.
Garro Ellis explained the procedure for this year’s Waterman Foundation Grant. The Committee has decided to grant one gift of up-to $45,000. The application must be filled out by a Member of the Rotary Club of Bakersfield who is passionate about the group that the Member is representing to the Waterman Foundation Committee.
President Morton asked Shannon Grove to stand, be recognized and tell the Club what her future plans would entail. Immediate Past Assembly Member Grove announced that she would be running for the Senate Chair that would be vacated by Senator Jean Fuller in two years. We ALL wish her the best and President Morton’s was recorded.

The Program
Wind Wolves Preserve
Garro Ellis introduced our speaker, Landon Peppel. Mr. Peppel is the Preservation Manager at the Wind Wolves Preserve in Kern County.
With a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from St. Olaf College and a Master of Science in Land Resources and Environmental Sciences from Montana State University - Bozeman and an extensive background in threatened and endangered species. Mr. Peppel is the right person to manage our very own preserve of 93,000 acres with hundreds of plants and animals.
The name…Wind Wolves Preserve… is a Native American totem because the grass looks like wolves are running through it. This preserve is the largest preserve of the 147,000 acre Wildlands Conservancy, which is the largest nonprofit nature preserve system in California.

The Member’s questions at the end of Mr. Peppel’s presentation were excellent, and the comments from those that had experienced the Wind Wolves Preserve were positive and inviting.
