Meeting Recap:
Wow! I thought I went to the wrong meeting- It looked like a Breast Cancer Society meeting – everyone in pink! However, I finally recognized Pres Damion in a pink suit who called everyone to order at 12:10pm. Your confused scribe happened to sit at the only VIP table including District Governor Scott Phillips and his pink entourage: Asst Dist Governor Quon Loue , Brian Pitts, District Governor photographer and his wife Kay Pitts from Breakfast Rotary.
Pres Pink welcomed all with a prayer from Ashley Vorhees, a flag salute from a guy in the back, and a song from Garro Ellis. Garro recognized the death of Vin Scully with Take Me Out to the Ball Game and Sweet Caroline. Pres Pink displayed everyone's birthday in August and highlighted our Bernie Barman for his 90th. Past Pres Leland introduced our newest member : Aaron Falk, CEO of Kern Community Foundation who he met at Krispy Kreme (really). Steve Illingsworth wanted everyone to know Urners has opened a new 30,000 sq. ft. store in the Northwest and he was fined $10.
District Governor Phillips walked his pink tennis shoes to the podium to GET LOUD and promote Rotary by wearing pink. He showed off a Rotary project in Mexico at a prison and eye surgery to children. Jennifer Jones, President of Rotary International , slogan this year is Imagine and don’t keep Rotary a secret.
DG Phillips left us with these words: “Lite yourself on fire with passion (and pink?) and people will come from miles to watch you burn”
Pres Pink closed the meeting with seven minutes to go but encouraged us to come back next week for the unveiling of the Mystery Wheel.
New member, Aaron Falk and District Governor, Scott Phillips react to the live rodent President Jim is putting in all of the New Member swag bags.
Pretty in pink.
For those that didn't wear pink, there were alternatives.
Some people were grumpy about having to wear pink.
