Havana Nights is April 13th at the lovely home of the Shambaugh’s. Tickets are $100 each, $125 at the door or you can purchase a table of 8 for $1200. This fundraiser is open to the community, not just Rotary, so bring your friends and colleagues.
Jim Baldwin announced the upcoming golf tournament jointly hosted by BARC and the Boy Scouts. Money raised will go to support both programs.
Mike Chertok let us know about the upcoming Bakersfield Symphony Gala and accompanying opportunity drawing. Tickets are $100 each.
Jack Gotcher announced that beginning March 1st, Meadows Field will be offering a direct flight to Dallas Fort Worth.
Program
Boy Scouts of America, Southern Sierra Council
Our very own Jessie Lopez provided our program today along with his Board President, Steven Boyle and Eagle Scout Nathan Jones.
The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations, providing programs for young people that build character.
In Scouting, boys and girls start with their best “right now selves" and grow into their “very best
future selves". It’s fun, hands-on learning and achievement that puts kids in the middle of the action and prepares them for today – and for life.
Their goal is to turn young men (and soon to be ladies) into great adults. They are taught to make ethical choices, to be mentally awake and morally strong. They are taught to be trustworthy, and most of all they are taught to BE PREPARED.
Eagle Scout Nathan Jones, a senior at Centennial High School and an Eagle Scout, stepped up to the podium and shared his story. He enjoys competing in cross country and track. He completed his Eagle Scout project at the Buena Vista Museum. And he enjoyed being a troop leader and helping the new scouts out.
After answering some questions, we all recited the Scout pledge.
