Downtown Rotary welcomed a wide range of visiting Rotarians and guests. The extended Hay family was in attendance.
Which scared the crap out of a normally coolheaded Ben Taft, who imploded in front of our eyes during his roast.

With a Blues Brothers theme and occasional joke, we celebrated the demotion of DT President Joe Hay.
Despite attending about 80% of the meetings, Joe was ribbed mercilessly for his frequent travel to scenic Detroit, MI. Vice-Mayor Andrae Gonzales presented Joe with a resolution of appreciation on behalf of the City of Detroit.
We reflected on Joe’s leadership—Joe is himself a 3rd generation Rotarian, and his family is beloved for their service towards Kern County. We welcomed Dan Hay to the stage for an unscripted Q&A. Then the Bob and Rob radio show dropped a bunch of spoons. Ray Watson pointed out that it’s patriotic to take business trips and presented Joe with a travel certificate.
President-Elect Kristen Watson gifted a nice bottle of whisky. Damian took the credit.
And we invited Joe’s executive assistant Shawn Partain to spill the tea about keeping Joe on task, on time, and the proper way to cut the crust off of his sandwiches.
