Program:
Michael George introduced Chris Asa who brought us up to speed on the CSUB Roadrunner Scholarship Fund.
Fun fact: Student-athletes who come to play at CSUB, 68% of the athletes stay in Bakersfield.
The goal is to raise $750k for CSUB athletics.
Chris is the Associate Director of development at CSUB. A year ago, Chris and his family moved to Bakersfield.
The Roadrunner scholarship fund is building for the future with four successful pillars: Academic Excellence, Student-Athlete Experience, Community Engagement and Competitive Success.
Athletes demonstrate Academic Excellence and boast 11 consecutive semesters with a department GPA above 3.0 and a NCAA graduation success rate is 79%. Although the athletes are not competing in the field right now, they are focused on academics and giving back in a big way.
Runner scholar-athletes give back in over 3,000 hours of community service each year. The biggest impact of COVID on the athletic department are revenues as they experience a $1.5m deficit.
Mr. Asa’s call to action is to rally around the CSUB scholar-athlete and Roadrunner Scholarship Fund is to donate the cost of ticket purchases you would have spent on watching the games this year. Questions: Chris Asa (662) 397-4971
