Good news & Announcements
Standing in for president Steve Roach was a very dapper Jeff Gutierrez. After a lengthy and well deserved plug for H. Walker's Clothing Co., owned and operated by Tracy Kiser, Jeff fined her $50 for his endorsement. Surprisingly, Tracy raised the fine to $250 for the Waterman Foundation. Because that's the way she rolls.
Steve Williford announced he's starting a new business called Budget Blinds. Which was promptly put in the red when Jeff fined him $250.
Then Jeff got really generous and started giving out Make-Ups like they were Halloween candy. Andy Barkate, Joe Hay and Signee Hoffman were on the receiving end.
Justin Lealand stood in as Sergeant at Arms for Garro Ellis, who was supposedly out of town. However, Justin claimed to have run into him in the hallway of their office on the way to Rotary.
Congratulations to Roland Maier for his fourth grandchild.
Congratulations to Ron Eaves for welcoming a baby great granddaughter.
Jay Rosenlieb announced a fundraiser for the Boy Scouts of America held at Luigi's on September 14th honoring Mike Hay. He's looking for mega-donors to raise money for a medical building at Camp Kern.
The Program
John Schuler introduced our speaker Chad Vegas. Chad was a Kern High School Trustee for 12 years and is currently the Founding Pastor of Sovereign Grace church. He didn't talk about anything to do with high schools. Rather, he gave a 30 minute sermon titled "What is the Chief End of Man?"
Highlights included secular and christian answers to these questions:
- Who Am I
- Why am I here? What is my purpose?
- What is the problem? What is wrong with the world and me?
- What is the solution? How will this get resolved? How am I saved?
The secular answers:
- Who am I? A random biological accident.
- Why am I here? What is my purpose? To maximize my happiness.
- What is the problem? Someone / something (perhaps myself) is in the way of my happiness.
- What is the solution? Fix or remove that problem.
And the Christian answers which Chad came up with through the help of Ecclesiastes:
- Who am I? A creature of the living God.
- Why am I here? To Honor his Name.
- What is the Problem? I am a sinner, a rebel, a law-breaker and death is my payment.
- What is the Solution? Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.
And the answer to the title of Chad's program? "To Glorify God and enjoy Him forever!"
