Julya and Ana are from Francisco Beltrão, Brazil and are here studying English. Julya is 18 and Ana will turn 18 next month. Julya’s mom is the President of Rotary Vila Nova in their hometown, and Ana’s aunt is the assistant to their District Governor. They’ve been here since January and will stay through July. They don’t drive so are walking and taking buses. They’re interested in volunteering and getting connected with other young adults. Let’s all show them some good ol’ Bakersfield Hospitality!

Program
Since Mike McCoy came on board to the Kern County Museum, he's endeavored to make the museum a great event venue. With the addition of the Neon Plaza and the Transportation Exhibit, they've been able to branch out from simple weddings to more elaborate full-scale events.
We enjoyed another memorable Hodel's clinch in the Mission Bank Neon Plaza. Twenty years ago they started with just eight signs, Stinson's being one of the first. But under McCoy's watch, it has grown to over 30 signs. Much of this was accomplished with a very generous donation from Bryan Batey.
Mike bragged about a few other coups he has managed, including the only American trolly car in existence- now fully restored and part of the Transportation Event venue.
Way back in February 1967 the Museum held a ribbon cutting for the Transportation exhibit. It languished for 53 years until Ray Watson senior got the ball rolling again with some sponsorship money. Interestingly enough, ninety percent of the vehicles in the exhibit are from Kern County.
when you get a chance to attend an event there, you'll notice another McCoy trophy. After receiving a tip he swooped in and sweet-talked the sisters at Noriega's Restaurant out of their iconic bar, which was destined for an out-of-town man-cave. It just happened to fit perfectly against one of the venue walls. Now, all it needs is some copper mugs, vodka, ginger beer and a twist of lime.
After lunch, we moseyed over to the newest crown jewel of the museum, The Bakersfield Sound exhibit.
