We did continue meeting online via Zoom, and if we never have to do that again it'll be too soon. Meanwhile, we had some successful fundraisers and adjusted our community service to meet the needs of those affected by the pandemic. And we had a blast doing it! |

Thanksgiving Donation![]() The Arroyo Grande Rotary club delivered numerous bags of non-perishable goods and a check for $1,024 to the Oceano Resource Center. The donations will ensure Thanksgiving meals for 20-30 local families in need and were provided by all members of the Arroyo Grande Rotary Club. September Rotarian of the Month![]() Peggy Hoobery was recognized by President Dempsey as our September Rotarian of the Month at today's meeting. Peggy recently concluded her chairmanship of our annual charity raffle and it was her guidance and drive that made it a success. Proceeds from the raffle significantly fund the Arroyo Grande Rotary club's scholarships and other educational programs throughout the year. Congratulations on the well deserved recognition and thanks for all you do Peggy!

August Rotarian of the Month![]() Carol Taylor was recognized as the Arroyo Grande Rotarian of the Month for August. Carol has been instrumental in leading the Arroyo Grande Rotary backpack drive for The Boys and Girls Club of South San Luis Obispo County for many years. She has coordinated volunteers, purchased supplies and ensured everything runs smoothly for the many children The Boys and Girls Club helps prepare for the new school year. Rotary tours PB Water Treatment facility![]() Members of the Arroyo Grande Rotary club had a private tour of the Pismo Beach water treatment facility and learned about Central Coast Blue a South County initiative of the cities of Pismo Beach, Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach and the Oceano services district to reclaim and recycle water through purification and injection into the ground water supply. The program in it's early stages is producing potable water and members were challenged to a taste test between tap water and recycled water....the results were unanimous, recycled water tasted better!

Once a month the Arroyo Grande Rotary Club provides lunch at the People's Kitchen in Grover Beach for the homeless and those in need. Old Juans wins our Making A Difference AwardThe Arroyo Grande Rotary Club has awarded local restaurant Old Juan’s Cantina their “Make a Difference Award” for their ongoing contribution to the club’s Homeless Luncheon Program. According to the message on the award, brother-and-sister owners Eva and Adam Verdin have provided full meals to the homeless in South County numerous times, asking nothing in return. Rotary Club member Rick Beels explains that the club “wanted to show them that we appreciate their generosity, and surprise them with this award. They exemplify the Rotary motto, ‘Service Above Self.’ ” The AG Rotary became involved with South County People’s Kitchen two years ago. The club provides volunteers and serves approximately 70 meals once a month at the Living Waters Community Church in Grover Beach. Camp Arroyo Grande Cabin Adopted by AG Rotarians![]() After touring the 132-year old Camp Arroyo Grande, Arroyo Grande Rotary members were definitely interested in helping support the camp so it could get renovated for kids to start attending as soon as possible. When the opportunity came along to adopt a cabin they thought it was a great way to support the camp. Camp Arroyo Grande dates back to the 1890's, and was purchased by the non-profit group The 5-Cities Community Service Foundation to keep it running as a camp for children from all over the community. Most recently Camp KEEP (Kern Environmental Education Program) announced it has moved its longtime Cambria campus to Camp Arroyo Grande.

Backpack Donation to Boys & Girls Clubs of S SLO![]() The members of the Rotary Club of Arroyo Grande donated supplies to fill over 100 backpacks for the Boys & Girls Club of South San Luis Obispo County kids. On August 9th members then helped the kids fill their brand new backpacks. It was a fun-filled event, and the kids were excited to choose their backpack color and then stuff their new pack with supplies to get ready for school.

ARROYO GRANDE ROTARY CLUB TREE PLANTING AT RANCHO GRANDE PARK![]() PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Friday, March 31, 2017 ARROYO GRANDE ROTARY CLUB TREE PLANTING AT RANCHO GRANDE PARK On March 24, 2018, the Arroyo Grande Rotary Club, along with the Five Cities Eco Rotary Club and the Rotary Interact Club from Nipomo High School, worked with members of the Tree Guild and City staff to plant 20 trees at Rancho Grande Park. Through the Recreation Services Department’s Adopt-a-Park program, the Arroyo Grande Rotary Club purchased the native species trees and necessary supplies for the project that was completed with assistance from the other groups. This project was a huge success and also assisted in reaching the Rotary International’s goal of planting 1.2 million trees worldwide by April 22, 2018. The City of Arroyo Grande is grateful for community groups and members that take an active role in the beautification of our community and enhance the condition and quality of our parks and open spaces. 10th Annual Christmas & Holiday Sing-Along![]() The Arroyo Grande Rotary Club is proud to announce its 10th Annual Christmas & Holiday Sing-Along to be presented on Sunday, December 17, 2017. This special 4:00pm matinee will take place in Arroyo Grande’s intimate Clark Center. Attendees will be able to enjoy great regional music and performing groups while also joining their family and friends in singing all their favorite Christmas and holiday songs. Rotary - Polio Plus Night at the Cal Poly Women's Basketball Game Saturday, January 19, 2013 - 3:00pmRotary - Polio Plus Night at the Cal Poly Women's Basketball Game 3:00pm Hospitality Reception in the big white tent behind the Gym hosted beverages from local wineries and breweries plus some soft drinks and snacks. Comments and introductions from Rotarians and Cal Poly Basketball Staff and Players. 4:00pm Cal Poly Mustangs vs. the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos Halftime Rotarians and Fans compete on court with free throws and 3-point shooting. A nominal fee with be charged per shot with all money going to Polio Plus. The Cal Poly Athletic Dept. will provide prizes for those that make a bucket! Before, during and after the game: Polio Plus displays will be available for viewing and Rotary and Polio Plus announcements will be made over the PA system. There will be various ways to donate to Polio Plus that night at the game. Group orders must be completed, including payment, before the day of the event. Scholars For SchoolsA group of Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars have formed a non-profit group to support low-income schools in the city of Valparaiso, Chile. The group, known as Scholars for Schools, is building libraries and media centers to improve children's literacy in elementary and middle schools. |

Hermosillo Ultrasound Project Grant Approved
Finally, a year after our board voted to support this great project, we have received approval for matching grant money from RI. Due to various adjustments to the project budget items and grant application which were requested first by the district, and then by RI, the approval process took some additional time and a lot of communication to wrap up.
