Soooo...what did YOU do during the pandemic?

Now that things are starting to reopen and we are meeting in person, we thought we'd show what we've been doing during the past year.

We did continue meeting online via Zoom, and if we never have to do that again it'll be too soon. Meanwhile, we had some successful fundraisers and adjusted our community service to meet the needs of those affected by the pandemic. And we had a blast doing it!

Members of the Arroyo Grande Rotary club had a private tour of the Pismo Beach water treatment facility and learned about Central Coast Blue a South County initiative of the cities of Pismo Beach, Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach and the Oceano services district to reclaim and recycle water through purification and injection into the ground water supply.  The program in it's early stages is producing potable water and members were challenged to a taste test between tap water and recycled water....the results were unanimous, recycled water tasted better!

Old Juans wins our Making A Difference Award

The Arroyo Grande Rotary Club has awarded local restaurant Old Juan’s Cantina their “Make a Difference Award” for their ongoing contribution to the club’s Homeless Luncheon Program.

According to the message on the award, brother-and-sister owners Eva and Adam Verdin have provided full meals to the homeless in South County numerous times, asking nothing in return. Rotary Club member Rick Beels explains that the club “wanted to show them that we appreciate their generosity, and surprise them with this award. They exemplify the Rotary motto, ‘Service Above Self.’ ”

The AG Rotary became involved with South County People’s Kitchen two years ago. The club provides volunteers and serves approximately 70 meals once a month at the Living Waters Community Church in Grover Beach.

For more information on the Arroyo Grande Rotary Club, visit www.agrotary.org . For information on how to support the Homeless Luncheon Program, email Rick Beels at islrick@sbcglobal.net.

Camp Arroyo Grande Cabin Adopted by AG Rotarians

story thumbnail
After touring the 132-year old Camp Arroyo Grande, Arroyo Grande Rotary members were definitely interested in helping support the camp so it could get renovated for kids to start attending as soon as possible. When the opportunity came along to adopt a cabin they thought it was a great way to support the camp.

Camp Arroyo Grande dates back to the 1890's, and was purchased by the non-profit group The 5-Cities Community Service Foundation to keep it running as a camp for children from all over the community. Most recently Camp KEEP (Kern Environmental Education Program) announced it has moved its longtime Cambria campus to Camp Arroyo Grande.

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, March 31, 2017

ARROYO GRANDE ROTARY CLUB TREE PLANTING AT RANCHO GRANDE PARK

On March 24, 2018, the Arroyo Grande Rotary Club, along with the Five Cities Eco Rotary Club and the Rotary Interact Club from Nipomo High School, worked with members of the Tree Guild and City staff to plant 20 trees at Rancho Grande Park. Through the Recreation Services Department’s Adopt-a-Park program, the Arroyo Grande Rotary Club purchased the native species trees and necessary supplies for the project that was completed with assistance from the other groups. This project was a huge success and also assisted in reaching the Rotary International’s goal of planting 1.2 million trees worldwide by April 22, 2018.

The City of Arroyo Grande is grateful for community groups and members that take an active role in the beautification of our community and enhance the condition and quality of our parks and open spaces.

For more information on how to participate in the Adopt-a-Park Program, please contact Karen Beaudin, Volunteer and Program Coordinator at 473-5473, email at kbeaudin@arroyogrande.org, or visit online at http://arroyogrande.org/606/Volunteer-Program.
