Kelly has lived and worked in Lake Stevens for 24 years. She acquired a love for design as a child from influences of her architect father and brother. Kelly has a true passion for design and feels that our homes should be our sanctuary and reflection of our personalities. Colors are important in our lives.

 

First color is red...most diverse color which can create an individuals appetite. Hence, the reason that McDonald's exteriors are in the color red. Red can denote in and out quickly. Second is orange which is her favorite color because it shows affordability. Allows food to be complimentary and one of the hottest colors. Third is yellow which suggest joyful, outgoing and cheerful which is great for north facing rooms. Does any know why "school buses" are yellow?  Because it is the first item or color that attracts our attention and is the fastest color that the eye sees. Fourth is blue which is a bit tricky which has a great undertone and maturity. Great color for politicians and campaign signs. Fifth is green which is harmonious and secure. Sixth is violet which is regal and at one time denoted wealth. Seventh is black which is formal and elegant. Next  is white which is awesome suggesting purity and all of these form the colors on the wheel. Colors can impact campaign signs.

 

Kelly's company is a full service design firm. Distinctive Interior Designs specializes in bathroom, kitchen and full remodels. Kelly works with vetted artisans and contractors that provide quality service. Kelly also acts as project management coordinator of all contractors and vendors working on her projects. Kelly has a Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in Organizational Communications and she studied Interior Design at Bellevue Community College. In 2010 she earned her color certification through Sensational Color.  Another terrific weekly Club program.

This year, we changed the theme of the Duck Dash fundraiser to the Viking Duck Dash along with unique costumes worn by Club members and a new way of determining the winners. In the past, the Lake's outflow channel flow wasn't enough to determine a winner at the finish line because the ducks never made it that far down the chsnnel. So, this year, through exciting Club leadership and determination, we found a clever way to dump the ducks in the Lake, a friendly kidnap of the AquaFest royalty and letting them pick out the winners from the 2,000 plus ducks in the Lake. Grand event with the parade being the kick-off of "what's to come" on Sunday afternoon.

The program on August 25th was both inspiring and captivating with a cause so meaningful and fulfilling that everyone should hear this program. Started in 2012 co-founded by Chris Brown, a combat wounded USMC veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan and a former mental health counselor turned farmer, Christina Wolf, they agreed that using the farm as a catalyst for human connection and veteran reintegration could have a powerful impact on the health and well being of not only vets returning home but the world. The purpose of Growing Veterans is to reduce veteran suicides by targeting the root cause which is isolation. The organizations vision is to create a culture of honor, truth and understanding, where they connect and strengthen the roots of humanity.

 

Using the farm and agricultural training and therapy as a platform, Growing Veterans provides a space where veterans can work together, support each other and engage with the broader community.  Support training, developed by veterans and mental health professionals, Scotty facilitates the three day training sessions around the country, teaching others to use peer support as a successful tool in PTSD growth and recovery.

 

Scotty began as a volunteer for Growing Veterans in 2014 after serving as a Combat Medic with Washington Army National Guard. Scotty is certified as a Peer Supporter by the State of Washington and has a degree in Criminal Justice and her civilian background is in Public Safety and Administration.

 

The organization grows micro greens used by many of the top restaurants in the Seattle area. The Puget Sound Food Hub is where many of the area restaurants buy their local produce. Each year there is an auction involving Chef Bruno of the Semiahmoo Resort. Other products are sold on-line or at the Farm and Market in Everett such as honey and hot sauce.
