This week's meeting is at the Lake Stevens Fire Department Conference Center. There will be a presentation by Brad Steiner, Executive Director of the Snohomish County Emergency Radio System. He will talk about the proposition that is appearing on the upcoming election ballot to fund a replacement radio system for the County's 911 system. This proposition would authorize the imposition of a countywide sales and use tax, in addition to other taxes authorized by law, of one tenth of one percent (0.1% - 10 cents for every $100) to be used for emergency communications systems and facilities as authorized by RCW.

We can report that Joyce Bell is feeling much better and is being transferred to rehabilitation care. She has enjoyed the visits from our members. Please keep our Rotarian of the Month in your thoughts as she recovers. Rumor has it that she's going to retire. Yes, you read that right!

Northwest Justice Project

Our guest speakers this week were two attorneys for the Northwest justice Project. Jamie Graves-Haslam and Jodi Sullivan. The vision for the NJP is justice for all low-income people in Washington. Their mission is to combat injustice, strengthening communities and protecting human dignity. The Northwest Justice Project is a dynamic statewide law firm.

The Northwest Justice Project has no income requirements for seniors 60 years of age and over. If a person is under 60, they must have an income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. For foreclosures or post foreclosure help, an individual must have an income at or below 400% of the Federal Poverty Level.

There is a Clear Intake Line that offers free legal services. CLEAR has attorneys that can provide an individual with advise and if they believe that your case fits within the priorities, the CLEAR advocate may refer the individuals case to the Northwest Justice Project. Common cases that CLEAR and other legal aid organizations can assist with include: foreclosure prevention and post-foreclosure cases including foreclosure scams; debt collection and scams; landlord/tenant issues and eviction; cash/food; medical coverage; family law and domestic violence; safety from abuse and neglect and wage theft and other victim of crime cases. Both mentioned the Washington Law Help Website as the best legal website in the United States.

The Northwest Justice Project is funded by Federal and State grants as well as grants from other sources.

Jamie is a staff attorney with the Northwest Justice Project in their Everett office. She graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law and received her Bachelor's Degree in consumer and housing issues from Western Washington University. Jodi is another staff attorney with NJP and is located in the Everett office. Jodi holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Washington and a Juris Doctor from the University of Washington Law School. Jodi handles legal issues involving seniors with a focus on public benefits.

Our regular Rotary Club Meetings are at the Lake Stevens School District Educational Service Center lower level Community Room located at 12309 22nd St NE. We start at 7:30 am. There is a robust continental breakfast available beforehand. Visitors are always welcome.
