Dan'l has been involved in Scouting since joining as a Cub Scout when he was 8 years old. He is an Eagle Scout and earned Sea Scouting's highest award, the Quartermaster. He has taken Scouts to several National Jamborees as well as to the World Jamboree in England in 2007 which was the 100th anniversary of the Scouting program founded by Lord Robert Baden-Powell. Dan'l has directed several training courses including Wood Badge, an advanced leadership development course teaching many tenants that Fortune 500 companies use for their employees and the Sea Badge which was held aboard the U.S. Hornet in Alameda, California. He is a Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow, Boy Scouting's National Honor Society. He is also the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award which is a National Boy Scouts of America Award given out by a local Council. Dan'l responsibilities and assignments include working with a key core of volunteers managing the manpower, money, program and membership responsibilities of this area. There are approximately 1,000 youth in the Scouting program for our local communities. It is important to understand the goal of Scouting which is PREPARED. FOR LIFE. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. SCOUT OATH-On my honor, I will do my best. To do my duty to God and my country. and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people al all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. SCOUT LAW- A Scout is: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent. Leaders make impressions on young people and Ben Eastman made such a huge impression on a very young Dan'l Adams that led to a lifetime commitment of the Boy Scouts of America. One person can make a difference in an individual. Dan'l referenced Rotary and Scouting which are both involved in character development and citizenship training to work in our communities to make a difference. His District would like to start a Venturing Group which could be sponsored by our Rotary Club. Ironically, our Club had sponsored a Venturing Group several years ago but it was a brief period. Another hope is to bring Sea Scouting to Lake Stevens as a way of learning basic boating. For the first time, a National Scouting Convention was held in Irvine, California with land on three sides and the Pacific Ocean on the fourth. This was a first time venture for the Boy Scouts of America. What's on the Horizon? The Good Scout Breakfast is set for Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Collector's Choice Restaurant in Snohomish. The doors open at 7:15 am with breakfast and the program starting at 7:30 am. In addition to honoring a distinguished community leader, they will be raising funds to support the character building Scouting programs that are delivered throughout East Snohomish County. Their goal is to raise $10,000 in critical operating funds for 2017. Dan'l announced at the start of his presentation that James Monroe, the Club's liaison to our Scouting programs, was given, earlier this year, a District Award of Merit for his volunteer work with Scouts.
