The beginning of the Club occurred 100 years ago on December 13, 1916 when members of the Rotary Clubs of Seattle and Tacoma ventured by boat to Everett for the beginning of the Rotary Club of Everett. Fifty-seven members were present and Rotary International rules limited Club's to 50. The Seattle and Tacoma Clubs were represented by their respective Club President's at Tuesday's celebration. There are many children and grandchildren clubs resulting from the Everett club sponsoring several clubs followed by those clubs sponsoring other Clubs such as the Rotary Club of Lake Stevens.
Larry O'Donnell, Club member and Historian provided a slide presentation of the history of Everett and of the Rotary Club of Everett. For instance, did you know that their are two small towns in Wisconsin named Hewitt and Colby, honoring the former resident entrepreneurs who helped develop Everett. Also, did you know that Colby cheese got its beginning in Colby, Wisconsin.
The meeting concluded with "Happy Bucks" which was the brainchild of Ed Rubatino who was the Club's President in 1977-78. He introduced "Happy Bucks" as a new cCub activity. The purpose was to increase fellowship and bring in revenue. What a wonderful event honoring the Rotary Club of Everett and its 100 years.
