Interact-Lake Stevens
Our guests for this past week's program was a presentation by the Officers and Directors of our Interact Club. With gusto, energy and great enthusiasm, the Officers and Directors led by Hayden Ploeger, Interact Club President, and Holly Noyes, Club Advisor.  They discussed the history and beginning of Interact. Interact started in Florida in 1952. Members of Interact are ages 14-18 years old. Within a year after the Florida inauguration, there was 177 clubs in 24 countries. Our Interact Club started in mid-September 2015.

Club officers and Directors are: President-Hayden Ploeger; Vice President - Alexis Hepburn; Secretary - Rebecca Trimble; Treasurer - Madeline Davis; Director of Internal Affairs - Nadia Roth and Director of External Affairs - Chynah Zamora. All were present and part of the Interact program presentation.

GOAL: Complete at least two community service projects. In the last four months, Interact has participated in the school's Club Fair attracting 21 members to the club who actively participate in each meeting. On Halloween night, the group participated in Family Night in downtown Lake Stevens and followed that with a Food Drive during the holidays filling over ten hours of volunteer time. There drive filled almost one classroom with donations amounting to the largest drive by any of the high school programs. Donated items were given to Little Hungary Hearts.

Recently, the members participated in a laser tag event as a friendly get acquainted bonding exercise led by Holly Noyes. Nadia shared her experience this past weekend at YAIL where she said the experience was terrific. Maple Stars was the name of her YAIL group. On the last day, YAIL participants held a bonding skit on world/peace and adventure followed by a campfire event. Nadia told our club members that the experience taught her a lot about leadership and speaking. She completed her presentation talking about the various activities during YAIL week-end.

They have so much to give and so much energy that this was a very pleasant and rewarding presentation for all of us to hear. Our club members can be very proud of our new Interact Club officers, directors and members. What a fantastic start for our new Interact Club. Great job!

Thought of the Week - Who Said It?
"Primarily Rotary seeks to apply the theory of service to business and community life...This is expressed in the first part of our code of ethics: To consider my vocation worthy and as affording me a distinct opportunity to serve society. He Profits Most Who Serves Best is a less ideal expression, but the suggestion of egoism is removed by the added words Service Above Self."
