Our speaker September 29th, was our own Club Member, Jim Steinruck. He is the Health Administrator for the Tulalip Health System. They are currently in the middle of a very big clinic remodeling project costing $5 million dollars. The System is working on whole person care. The mind, body and spirit. A lot of work on the reservation is all about the spirit. It's a cultural issue, which is viewed through the tribal lense. The remodeling project for the clinic lobby will create a service orientated process with licensed insurance brokers. Medicare open enrollment is involved as well. The clinic has a longhouse look. When you walk into the clinic, you will have a full view of Tulalip Bay. The architects are TGB Architects who developed the plans for the project remodeling. There are ten employees in the finance department including a couple specializing as coders. There are also twelve dental operatories. CULTURE: In the tribal community there is great respect for tribal elders. There are healing rooms all around the perimeter with behavioral health and recovery included. The System is expanding the community and public health services and relocating them. Wrap around care through the Community and Public Health department with a tribal hospital liaison through the PRMCE community and nursing. There is consolidated healthcare transport system is in place. The Tribal Healthcare System is revamping the way they recruit healthcare professionals. The AAAHC Accreditation process journey is a 12-24 month process. SERVICES: Major services provided by the Tulalip Healthcare System includes medical (acute and scheduled care), dental, lab, pharmacy, imaging/diagnostics, complimentary health, vision services, WIC, nutrition (RD), diabetes care, Wisdom Warrior (CDSM), behavorial health and recovery for (children and elders) are all part of the overall community health process. Currently working on recruiting clinical specialists to physically practice in the clinic. OUR SPEAKER: Jim was raised in the Seattle area, graduating from Shoreline High School, Shoreline Community College and Eastern Washington State College with a BA in Pre-physical therapy. While at EWSC, Jim was involved in Army ROTC and was named a Distinguished Military Student. Upon graduation, Jim was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the Medical Service Corps. Seven years of active service followed by 14 years in the reserves retiring with the rank of Major. Jim is a graduate of the US Army Airborne and Ranger Schools located in Ft. Benning, Georgia. While on active duty in San Francisco Jim earned his MBA in Healthcare Management from Golden Gate University. Jim has been a Rotarian for 35 years and a member of our club for 25 years and was our President in 2000-2001. Jim has been married to his wife, Dawn for 42 years. They have three grown and married children and four with one on the way grandchildren. Also, Jim is a Commissioner,for the Lake Stevens Fire.
