Essential. For me it is a word with a meaning that is developing as we travel through these difficult times. I think most of us are very fortunate to live in a world of plenty and comfort. Maybe we are learning to do with a little less. Maybe some things that we thought were essential really are just luxuries. Maybe we are learning to be more flexible and to adapt.

Before Virus – Essential that I get my hair cut and dyed every four weeks

Now – Wear a hat or show off my gray streak

Before Virus - Essential that I get lots of potting plants for deck containers.

Now – Put a bunch of those pots in storage and transplant the few plants I have into one or two pots.

Before Virus – Essential that I buy just the right veggie starts for the garden.

Now – Doing some trading with the neighbor, starting more from seeds, and when all else fails, trying something new.

Before Virus – Essential that I go to the grocery store weekly for fresh fruit and vegetables.

Now – Create some interesting recipes with what I find in the freezer.

I guess I really can’t complain. Still living a life of plenty and luxury, just a little different than before. There are so many in our community and in our world that don’t know where their next meal is coming from. That is essential. Or who don’t have a place to live. That is essential. Or don’t have any opportunity for education. That is essential. Or are ill. HEALTH IS ESSENTIAL.

Let’s stay healthy and let’s be grateful!

This Week's Meeting

For the foreseeable future we will be meeting online. The meetings will start at 7:30. You will be able to join the meetings starting at about 7:25. We are using the Zoom online meeting platform. Click this link to join the meeting. Guests are always welcome.

The scheduled speaker at this week's meeting is Barbara Mock, Director of Snohomish County's Planning and Development Services Division. She will update us on population growth patterns and County-wide planning. This is important to Lake Stevens because of the explosive growth we have seen in just a few short years.

Continue to live by and exemplify the Rotary Four Way Test-

Is it the Truth?

Is it Fair to All Concerned?

Will it Build Goodwill and Better Friendships?

Will it Be Beneficial to all Concerned?

Discussion Topics From Our Meeting

Oh, not the image you were looking for. Well it does serve the purpose.

The hardest part of our Rotary experience is our inability to have face to face contact with our members who have become part of our family. Zoom has replaced our weekly Friday morning meetings and allowed our Club members to see one another although from a distance and through the eye of our computers/cellphones with some spectacular backgrounds if only as an image of where we might want to be or just enjoying it as a background picture.

Discussion centered around one member buying ten pizzas for Ace Hardware employees so busy during this pandemic that have been so helpful to our member, to an Easter boat parade around the lake involving over 40 boats organized by Chris J. What about the progress of the 7 new chicks? Some of our male members growing beards, or getting that much needed haircut and much more. Kristin reported that the Interactors are so overwhelmed with the current status of the "stay at home" requirements and on-line schooling that has become part of our fabric during this pandemic.

Scholarships are now coming in after the Vocational Committee extended the deadline. Now we have over 17 applications by my count from Lance's email. Now, the judging begins with our next meeting set for April 27th. Request for anyone interested in being a judge sent out by Lance this past few days.

Corks and Kegs was originally set for this past Saturday, April 18th but instead has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 26th. So, on Saturday did you have a glass of wine or beer and think about "what might have been" or just enjoy the time at home?

Support for local businesses and restaurants that are open for take out or adhering is extremely helpful in these times of high unemployment caused by the pandemic/virus. Good to see everyone that was on the Zoom meeting.

Interact is a service club for youth ages 14-18. The name is a combination of the words international and action. We join Clubs in over 120 countries around the world. The global youth network is dedicated to community and international service. Every Interact Club project, great or small, has a lasting impact on society worldwide.
