This Week's Meeting
Our program this week is a presentation about the Peace Corps by our own Gina Anderson. She and her husband spent two years in the Corps. She will share their experiences and how she was doing Service Above Self long before she joined Rotary.

Keep soliciting donations for baskets and auction items. Keep collecting the beer and the wine. AND, sell tickets!

CONTEST: Be the first person to correctly identify from where the photograph at the top of this bulletin and at the top of our website was taken by 7:30 am, Friday, March 31st. This photo is a change from previous versions of this same scene. Email the editor.

District 5050 Vision Training Session
Vision Training:  Our District 5050 Vision Training session team on March 23rd consisted of Pat Bond, Bill Gorman, Lynn Spence and Valerie Tibbetts. Twelve of our thirty-five members participated in the Vision Training session at the Lake Stevens Senior Center.

Basically we were told that the purpose of "why" a Vision Training session is needed is to look into the future and determine where we are going and "what" we want to accomplish in the next 5, 10, 15 and 50 years. Vision process involves continuity of leadership, consistency in programming, consensus which is part of the Vision process.

We were told that the Planning Steps include a Vision Plan, followed by a Long Range Plan and Action steps to be taken. There are nine steps for implementing the Club Leadership Plan.

According to our facilitators, Standing Committees are recommended even for smaller clubs. The Club Strategic Plan sets out our values in action. It should involve an integrated planning effort involving Rotary's central purpose. The Vision process should be bold and outside the bold, suspending the practical side with the frame of mind being five years.

From the Vision Session, we were given four requirements to complete the Vision session which will be followed by a Strategic Planning session in the very near future.

A big "thank you" to Tracy for providing her "world" famous soup and to Joyce for her world class salad, bread and treats. Jim H brought the flip chart stands and the projector and Randy picked up some of the supplies for us to use during the dinner etc. Thanks so much to everyone involved in the process. We look forward to sharing with the rest of the club members.

Classification Talks
Two weeks ago, we had Classification talks by three of our newest members. Classification talks are always away of getting to know our members and more about their background, their families and current jobs.

Gina Anderson remembered her and her husband's time in Peace Corp. The start of a cultural exchange begins with your arm and "what you are connected too, your hand reaching out and the other hand coming out. The teacher in her, asked us to partner up with whoever was next to us. She developed two groups. The A's and B's. The A group was asked about the image of "what you are grounded too" and the B group was task with "what you are willing to give Up." I probably have done her presentation an injustice but hope I captured the essence of her time in the Peace Corp. Married to Jason and two children. All three were involved in the last Community Supper.

Chris Vallo was born in Ohio and moved in the third grade to the northwest. Chris has been in Lake Stevens for more than 30 years. He has worked for General Telephone and at one point was a Supervisor in Redmond in charge of service to the University of Washington. Chris has worked at Snohomish County Health, talking people through a crisis. You had to log everything and eventually it just became to stressful. Chris has been involved in Scouting and coaching his kids in sports. Chris was involved in the merging of GTE systems between the Northwest and California. He was responsible for contract administration and supply chain. He accompanied 65 young kids to Washington D. C. for Scouting before 9-11. He has three kids. He retired from Verizon and is involved in real estate. Chris is married and has three grown children. Two boys and a girl. His wife is a senior scheduler for an airline. He and one of his sons were involved and participated in the Community Supper.

Jennifer Coyle was the last of our Classification presenters. Jennifer and her husband were raised in Portland. She met her husband Allan in Middle School. When Allan was transferred from Providence in Portland to Everett, Jennifer continued working for the Providence Foundation in Portland remotely from home for 1 1/2 years. She was promoted to Providence General Foundation, Everett as the Director of the Annual Giving Program. Jennifer has been with Providence for 19 years. She joined the Providence Foundation in 2007. At the time Phil and Penny Knight of Nike fame gave Providence the largest grant ever with a $25 million dollar gift. Jennifer finds the mission of Providence and Rotary to be very similar. Jennifer, Allan and her son Quinn helped at the Community Supper. In fact, her son Quinn teamed with Gina's son Clark & were just awesome workers. Clark is 9 and Quinn is 6. They became great buddies at the Community Supper event. Thanks so much for all that you do for Rotary.

Three really great Classification Talks. We haven't heard from Gina about what grades her club members were given for their classroom exercise.

Thought of the Week - Who Said It?
"Too many people go through life complaining about their problems. I've always believed that if you took one tenth the energy you put into complaining and applied it to solving the problem, you'd be surprised by how well things can work out."
