Servant Leadership With Howard Behar

July 12 at Noon
The Hyatt  Olive 8, 1635 8th Ave

If you ask Howard Behar what defines a great leader, he’ll tell you great leaders serve. That doesn’t mean they are subservient or weak. It simply means they’re motivated by a genuine compassion for people. In other words, they care deeply about their employees and customers, and they act accordingly. Howard’s career in business spans more than 50 years, all in consumer-oriented businesses covering several industries. He retired from Starbucks Coffee after 21 years where he led both the domestic business, as President of North America, and was the founding President of Starbucks International. During his tenure, he participated in the growth of the company from 28 stores to more than 15,000 stores spanning five continents. He served on the Starbucks Board of Directors for 12 years before retiring.

Howard now serves on several boards, including iD Tech, Education Elements and the advisory boards of Anthos Capital and Roadtrip Nation. His nonprofit commitments are to the University of Washington Foundation, UW Business School mentoring program and as a Trustee for The Sherry and Les Biller Family Foundation. Howard is committed to the development and education of our future leaders and has been a longtime advocate of the Servant Leadership Model. He has also authored two books on leadership titled “It’s Not About the Coffee” and “The Magic Cup.”

11:30am-2:00pm @ The Edmonds Theater, 415 Main St, Edmonds

Almost every girl has experienced girl-against-girl bullying. Unfortunately, almost every girl has also contributed to bullying. Help give them the tools to end the cycle by attending a screening of the IndieFlix Foundation Film: Finding Kind.

Inspired by our speaker, Scilla Andreen, and hosted by Girl Scout Troop 41002, this two-hour event is designed for girls in 5th through 12th grades and is open to all Rotarians. The program includes a movie and facilitated discussion.

Cost: $8 per person. Early bird discounted price of $6 available through June 30.
Kindly Hosted by: Girl Scout Senior Troop 41002

Wider World of Rotary

By Krista Dalton

Today my husband and I attended the Rotary meeting in Kyoto Japan. It was their first meeting of the new Rotary year so it was a packed room.
We were received very warmly, even though the club does not accept women.I presented our banner to the President.
