Once a year we ask you to make two donations. One is to the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation (SRSF). The other is to The Rotary Foundation (TRF). If you have not yet made your donations, please consider doing so today. Thank you!
Slade Gorton and art thiel, Saving the Seattle Mariners
April 4 at Noon
The Renaissance, 515 Madison
Slade Gorton is one of the state’s longest-serving political figures. Among his many accomplishments, he played key roles in saving Major League Baseball for Seattle — not once, but three times. As state attorney general in 1972, he sued the American League after the Pilots left, forcing the owners to award a franchise to Seattle in 1977 that became the Mariners. As U.S. Senator in 1991, he connected Japanese billionaire Hiroshi Yamauchi with a group of Seattle-area tech-business leaders to buy the franchise to keep it in town. In 1996 Slade Gorton stepped in again, intervening when King County threatened to stop the stadium funding plan. Art Thiel of SportsPressNW will have a conversation with Slade Gorton about his passion for baseball and the effectiveness of strong political leadership.
Did you enjoy Don Kraft's #4Bits segment this week about Rotarian Luther Carr? See below for Frances Carr's black history book recommendations. The six books she recommended to Don in 1985 are included here, along with a few more Rotarians might enjoy.

Join the Seattle Rotary Sustainability Committee in a service project at Washington Park Arboretum. Volunteers will work on restoration through planting, mulching, removing invasive species, and maintaining trails throughout the arboretum.
The Seattle #4 Rotary Peacebuilder Committee invites you to join the World Peace Forum. Every year, the World Peace Forum gathers scholars and students, peace activists and executives, journalists, religious leaders, politicians and artists from all corners of the globe to participate in the dialogue of Peace!
