Dr. Jay Wenger,
How Much Longer WIll Polio Persist?

October 24 at noon
The Westin, 1900 5th Ave.

Our World Polio Day speaker will be Dr. Jay Wenger, who leads the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s work on polio eradication.  Dr. Wenger had a key role at the World Health Organization in India’s successful eradication of the disease. This past summer, he spent time in Afghanistan and Pakistan and will share his assessment of Rotary’s impact and what more is needed to end polio there.  He’ll also tell some great stories from his work in the Middle East and Africa during an extended interview with Mark Wright.

Election Cybersecurity - Keeping Your Vote Safe

Jimmy Collins introduced Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman.  The 15th Secretary and 2nd woman to hold the elected position, Secretary Wyman began by acknowledging Seattle Rotary member Ralph Munro as a predecessor and "favorite mentor," mentioning his practice of starting out with a joke.  Although she minimized her ability to tell a joke, Secretary Wyman brought the house down with a story about a senator and his choice between Heaven and Hell. She graciously recognized Seattle Rotary's role in supporting the Boys and Girls Club, founding Medic One, and in ending polio.

Secretary Wyman assured us of the integrity of the Washington State voter system with facts supporting her confidence. Her office alerted quickly to detect and stop Russian attempts to hack into our system leading up to the 2016 election.

Support our Rotary Foundations for a Year of Action and Impact!

As Rotarians, we are leaders connecting for extraordinary good –both in our community and around the world.  Together we are eradicating polio and malaria, bringing fresh water to rural villages worldwide to stop the spread of disease, and helping our neighbors in need with housing, healthy foods, and educational opportunities.

Once a year we ask you to fulfill your membership obligations and take action by making two gifts that will impact the world.  One is to the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation (SRSF).  The other is to The Rotary Foundation (TRF).  Thank you for taking action now to help our club have a powerful and positive impact on our world.

SRSF Opportunity Grant

The Seattle Rotary Service Foundation announced the opening of the 2018 Opportunity Grants cycle.  This funding program works to be responsive to the preferences of our member donors and the needs of our community, recognizing that sometimes our usual structure of annual grants does not make funds available when special opportunities, emergencies, and unique needs arise.

The maximum grant will be $7,500 and the minimum is $500.  All applications must be received by SRSF by December 1, 2018.
Applications for these grants must come through the regular Seattle Rotary Service Committees.

COMMITTEE MEETING SCHEDULE
