Gary Rubens is one of Seattle’s top angel investors who plays an important role in our region’s startup ecosystem.  He has started and sold two companies including which was purchased by Lowe’s in 2012 for more than $100 million.  Gary has acquired and merged five companies and invested more than $17 million in at least 80 companies ranging from wearable technology to cosmetics.  His most recent venture is Athlete Intelligence, a Kirkland-based company focused on data analytics for athlete performance and safety including helping coaches measure head impact force for concussion awareness.

In 2012, Gary and his wife Jennifer founded the Rubens Family Foundation which has donated more than $30 million to Washington State non-profits focused on early childhood development and educational opportunities for low income students pursuing STEM and healthcare degrees.

Saturday, August 26th
10:30am @ Spruce Street Crisis Center, 1102 E Spruce St, Seattle
Volunteers are needed to help paint the 18 dorm rooms for the Spruce Street Crisis Center which is one of the only licensed locations in Seattle that is able to take in children who are victims of sex trafficking. Join Rotarians and Rotaractors from around the area for this hands-on community service event. Bring your painting clothes and we will provide the painting supplies, coffee, and pizzas for lunch. The program director, Deborah Tillman, will be there to answer questions about the program and provide a tour.

11:30am-2:00pm @ The Edmonds Theater, 415 Main St, Edmonds
Almost every girl has experienced girl-against-girl bullying. Unfortunately, almost every girl has also contributed to bullying. Help give them the tools to end the cycle by attending a screening of the IndieFlix Foundation Film: Finding Kind.
Inspired by our speaker, Scilla Andreen, and hosted by Girl Scout Troop 41002, this two-hour event is designed for girls in 5th through 12th grades and is open to all Rotarians. The program includes a movie and facilitated discussion.
Cost: $8 per person. Early bird discounted price of $6 available through June 30.
Kindly Hosted by: Girl Scout Senior Troop 41002
