Secretary of State Kim Wyman: Elections  Cybersecurity - Keeping Your Vote Safe

October 17 at noon
The Westin, 1900 5th Ave.

We now live in a time when the security of our elections, and of our individual votes, can no longer be taken for granted. In the US, the administration of all elections falls to the individual states, which have put election security at the highest priority. In most states, this responsibility lies with the Secretary of State.

With a highly consequential election just weeks away, we are fortunate to have Washington Secretary of State, Kim Wyman, update us on efforts at the national and local level to ensure safe and secure elections. Secretary Wyman was first elected in 2012 and is only the second woman to hold the office.

A Cure for Cancer is Nearer Than You Think!

Karl Ege introduced his close friend and our speaker for the day, Dr. Gary Gilliland, President and Director of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Dr. Gilliland thanked Karl for inviting him to come out west. He appreciated that he got more applause than John Steckler. Fred Hutch is the only cancer research center named after a professional baseball player. Fred Hutchinson died at 44 of lung cancer.  He likely would not have died had he been alive today, thanks to advances in cancer treatment.

SRSF Opportunity Grant

The Seattle Rotary Service Foundation announced the opening of the 2018 Opportunity Grants cycle.  This funding program works to be responsive to the preferences of our member donors and the needs of our community, recognizing that sometimes our usual structure of annual grants does not make funds available when special opportunities, emergencies, and unique needs arise.
The maximum grant will be $7,500 and the minimum is $500.  All applications must be received by SRSF by December 1, 2018.
Applications for these grants must come through the regular Seattle Rotary Service Committees.

For more information on committees, including those that do not have regular meeting times, see the committee page on our website. Meeting times and locations are subject to change, contact committee chairs for more information.
