Special Honor for Corinne Cavanaugh

Rotary District 5030 Governor Alex Hopkins and past District Governor Ezra Teshome made a surprise visit to Seattle 4 to present a Rotary International Regional Service Award for a Polio Free World to Corinne Cavanaugh, Seattle 4’s Vice President of Membership.
Cavanaugh has been a beehive of support for Rotary, improving the District’s website, social media, and videos, and beyond this region, she has invested her talents deeply in the campaign to eradicate polio.  Cavanaugh has organized major events such as World Polio Day at the Gates Foundation and worked with the Gates Foundation’s social media group to amplify Rotary’s social media reach.  Recognizing her effectiveness, Seattle 4 member Steve Crane nominated her for this special honor, and Rotary International agreed.

Remembering Herb Bridge

Jon Bridge and Lisa Bridge, son and grand-niece, respectively, of beloved Seattle leader and Rotarian Herb Bridge, shared memories of Herb.  Lisa Bridge is now President and Chief Operating Officer of Ben Bridge Jeweler, leading daily operations of the firm’s 90 stores.
Recalling his kindness and generosity, Lisa recounted how Herb came to be known as Mr. Downtown.  He went door-to-door, she said, to create support for a metropolitan improvement district to clean and maintain the retail environment.  He always showered attention and support on the employees who did the cleanup.
Jon Bridge served the family business most recently as Chief Legal Counsel and Co-CEO.  He said his father “embodied the Jewish messianic dream of Tikkun olam – which means repairing the world, making this a better place.”  “He epitomized service above self that is Rotary,” Jon said.  “His message to all of us is to live life to the fullest, caring for those with whom we come in contact.  He’d want us all to go out, do good, and contribute to our community.”
