Support our Rotary Foundations for a Year of Action and Impact!
As Rotarians, we are leaders connecting for extraordinary good –both in our community and around the world. Together we are eradicating polio and malaria, bringing fresh water to rural villages worldwide to stop the spread of disease, and helping our neighbors in need with housing, healthy foods, and educational opportunities.
Once a year we ask you to fulfill your membership obligations and take action by making two gifts that will impact the world. One is to the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation (SRSF). The other is to The Rotary Foundation (TRF). Thank you for taking action now to help our club have a powerful and positive impact on our world.

Michelle Mathieu What's Next for the World Economy?
January 16 at noon
The Hilton Seattle, 1301 6th Ave.
As we begin the New Year, it’s time to tackle our favorite resolution: getting smarter about our money! Michelle Mathieu, Chief Investment Officer of Fulcrum Capital, is expertly qualified to help us do just that.
Are we headed into another recession? Will we be crushed by massive debt? What will drive global growth in the next decade? Michelle will help us better understand the complex, global economy, and offer forward-thinking strategies that can help us survive short-term in order to thrive long-term.
Venue Information:
Our meeting will take place in the Pacific Ballroom, located on the lobby level.
Parking is available in the LAZ Parking garage with an entrance on 6th Avenue.
Bob Donegan kicked off the first Rotary 4 luncheon of 2019 with the story of how Ivar Haglund, "Flounder" of Ivar’s, built one of Seattle’s oldest seafood restaurants. Donegan, who joined the company in 1997, and is now President, has helped to fuel the success of Ivar’s through the tripling of employees, store count, and revenue since joining the team. Donegan, who serves on several boards of directors in Puget Sound, and moved to Seattle in 1984, was introduced by Michelle Stone, Community Relations Manager at Ivar’s, who had all Rotarians wear Ivar’s paper kid’s menu face masks for a playful group photo.
While it is difficult to predict the future, one thing is very predictable. For any association, corporation or other organization to succeed and grow, they need a combination of both young and old members.
Age gives you the knowledge where youth brings you the energy. Well today, I have the pleasure of introducing our newest Rotarian who brings us both!
The highly technical term for this is a “twofer”!
Standing beside me is Mary Johnstone, who joins us today under the classification of Technology.
The Peacebuilder Committee invites you to join the discussion of ways to dismantle Human Trafficking through healthcare education, training, and program development. For more information, contact Virginia McKenzie.
Get out your business cards! Seattle Rotary will be hosting a business networking event at the Tap House Grill on 6th Avenue. This is a chance to build business connections among our own club members and also welcome potential members from the downtown core.
This event will feature a no-host bar (please order in our designated room) plus an array of delicious appetizers. Parking is available in the nearby Pacific Place.
We are hoping to start doing more of these networking events, so please help us make this one a success by attending and bringing a prospect. We’ll be promoting this on social media and would appreciate your help spreading the word through your own network. If you would like to help with the event logistics, please see Taylor Shimizu or Liz Powell.
8:30-11:00 am @ Northwest Harvest Warehouse, 22220 68th Ave. S., Kent
Join Rotarians and Rotaractors from around the district for a morning of hands-on service. You'll be helping to pack some of the millions of pounds of healthy fruits and vegetables RFH provides every year for families and individuals in need.
Members, family, and guests are invited to a winter sports outing. Attendees will meet in the Denny Creek Lodge at Alpental at 11:00 am for some fellowship cheer and no host lunch, then spend the afternoon skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing, sledding, or simply enjoying lunch together at one of the most beautiful mountain places in the Cascades.
For the first time, Rotary District 5080 (Spokane area clubs) and District 5030 (Seattle area clubs) will Come Together in Spokane for a joint district conference May 16-19, 2019. Keynote speakers include the nationally renowned business speaker, Angelo Lombardo, Rotary International President, Barry Rassin, and the legendary Bill Gates reflecting on Rotary's partnership with the Gates Foundation. Workshops will help to mold new thinking. Socials and home visits will introduce you to new friends and Rotary partners. This event will sell out, so register soon!
The Education Committee will not be having their regular committee in the month of January. Instead, they are planning a working session on January 24 from 3:00-6:00 pm at the WAC. Those interested in attending the work session should contact Mary Wagner or Lori Walker in advance as space is limited.
2019 Rotary International Convention
Unforgettable moments are made at the Rotary International Convention, a place where the Rotary spirit fills the air with a level of energy and enthusiasm you can’t find anywhere else. This is the event where Rotarians unite and take action to create true and lasting change in the world. The 2019 event will be held in Hamburg, Germany June 1-5.
Rotarian Malaria Partners tours malaria eradication projects where the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation has contributed. Earlier this year we visited a large project in Uganda with so much energy and appreciation that we will repeat the tour May 6-15. Besides learning about malaria initiatives, the group meets Ugandan Rotarians, visits a phenomenal environmentally sensitive resort, and goes on a safari, all in 10 days for less than $200 per day including all meals, hotels, safari game drive and boat trip, private motor coach, chartered air flight, beverages including beer and wine, and gratuities.
In addition, there’s an opportunity to visit the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to visit one of two mountain gorilla habitats in the world.
The Puget Sound Rotary Network is a great resource for Rotarians to share their business with others and learn about products and services offered by other Rotarians in the region.
For more information on committees, including those that do not have regular meeting times, see thecommittee page on our website. Meeting times and locations are subject to change, contact committee chairs for more information.
