PARKING INFORMATION
For those who drive to our weekly luncheons, here is some information about available parking options.
The Westin - for self-park or valet, obtain coupon at meeting registration for a discounted rate of $14.
Pacific Place is another good option only a couple blocks from most of our venues. The cost is $12 for up to 3 hours. The garage is accessed from either 6th or 7th between Pine and Olive.
The Sheraton, Four Seasons, Grand Hyatt, and Hyatt Olive 8 do not offer discounted parking.

Is it possible to have high-quality, affordable education in WA State? The presidents of UW and WSU sure think so. They’ve joined forces to advocate for changes to legislation and public awareness that could put higher education within reach for more people.
UW President Ana Mari Cauce and WSU President Kirk Schulz will discuss their ideas and plans for the coming legislative session with KUOW’s Ross Reynolds.
Making some sense out of the economic turbulence in our world, Chief Investment Officer Michelle Mathieu presented Seattle # 4’s annual economic update, the first woman to do so at our podium. Michelle is a principal with Seattle’s Fulcrum Capital which manages $1 billion in assets, is woman-owned, and is ranked as the #1 woman-owned investment firm in the country. It is the 7th ranked emerging wealth firm in the US.
The Peacebuilder Committee invites you to join the discussion of ways to dismantle Human Trafficking through healthcare education, training, and program development. For more information, contact Virginia McKenzie.
Get out your business cards! Seattle Rotary will be hosting a business networking event at the Tap House Grill on 6th Avenue. This is a chance to build business connections among our own club members and also welcome potential members from the downtown core.
This event will feature a no-host bar (please order in our designated room) plus an array of delicious appetizers. Parking is available in the nearby Pacific Place.
We are hoping to start doing more of these networking events, so please help us make this one a success by attending and bringing a prospect. We’ll be promoting this on social media and would appreciate your help spreading the word through your own network. Join Rotarians and Rotaractors from around the district for a morning of hands-on service. You'll be helping to pack some of the millions of pounds of healthy fruits and vegetables RFH provides every year for families and individuals in need.
Members, family, and guests are invited to a winter sports outing. Attendees will meet in the Denny Creek Lodge at Alpental at 11:00 am for some fellowship cheer and no host lunch, then spend the afternoon skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing, sledding, or simply enjoying lunch together at one of the most beautiful mountain places in the Cascades.
For the first time, Rotary District 5080 (Spokane area clubs) and District 5030 (Seattle area clubs) will Come Together in Spokane for a joint district conference May 16-19, 2019. Keynote speakers include the nationally renowned business speaker, Angelo Lombardo, Rotary International President, Barry Rassin, and the legendary Bill Gates reflecting on Rotary's partnership with the Gates Foundation. Workshops will help to mold new thinking. Socials and home visits will introduce you to new friends and Rotary partners. This event will sell out, so register soon!
The Education Committee will not be having their regular committee in the month of January. Instead, they are planning a working session on January 24 from 3:00-6:00 pm at the WAC. Those interested in attending the work session should contact Mary Wagner or Lori Walker in advance as space is limited.
2019 Rotary International Convention
Unforgettable moments are made at the Rotary International Convention, a place where the Rotary spirit fills the air with a level of energy and enthusiasm you can’t find anywhere else. This is the event where Rotarians unite and take action to create true and lasting change in the world. The 2019 event will be held in Hamburg, Germany June 1-5.
Rotarian Malaria Partners tours malaria eradication projects where the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation has contributed. Earlier this year we visited a large project in Uganda with so much energy and appreciation that we will repeat the tour May 6-15. Besides learning about malaria initiatives, the group meets Ugandan Rotarians, visits a phenomenal environmentally sensitive resort, and goes on a safari, all in 10 days for less than $200 per day including all meals, hotels, safari game drive and boat trip, private motor coach, chartered air flight, beverages including beer and wine, and gratuities.
In addition, there’s an opportunity to visit the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to visit one of two mountain gorilla habitats in the world.
The Puget Sound Rotary Network is a great resource for Rotarians to share their business with others and learn about products and services offered by other Rotarians in the region.
