Challenges to US National security
January 24 at Noon
NEW VENUE: The Hilton 1301 6th Ave
Seattle Rotarian Jill Dougherty will be speaking with General Barry McCaffrey (Ret.) about the national security challenges facing the United States around the globe. This promises to be a very enlightening conversation given their combined experience.
Jill is a Distinguished Visiting Practitioner at the University of Washington’s Evans School of Public Policy and Governance, a Global Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C., and a CNN Contributor. She served as a CNN correspondent for three decades, reporting from more than 50 countries, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, China, North Korea and Russia.
Barry McCaffrey served in the United States Army for 32 years. When he retired in 1996, he was the most decorated General serving in the United States Army, having been awarded three Purple Heart Medals for wounds received in combat, two Distinguished Service Crosses (the nation’s second highest award for valor), and two Silver Stars for valor. He served overseas for more than 12 years and four combat tours with the 82nd Airborne Division, the Vietnamese Airborne Division, the 1st Cavalry Division, and the 24th Mechanical Infantry Division.
New Venue Information:
Our meeting will take place in the Pacific Ballroom, located on the lobby level.
Parking is available in the LAZ Parking garage with an entrance on 6th Ave. Pick up a voucher at registration for a $5 flat rate.
We're looking for volunteers to join the ranks of mic handlers. If you're interested, please contact Sergeant-at-Arms, Ken Grant.
Calling all Seattle Rotarians to Serve as Hosts for "Winners for Life"
Wednesday, March 14
11:00am-12:00pm reception
12:00-1:30pm luncheon
Hyatt Olive 8, 1635 8th Ave.
Each year, the Rotary Club of Seattle honors high school students who have shown exceptional character in overcoming significant obstacles to remain in school.
On Wednesday, March 14th, we need 40 Seattle Rotarians to each host a “Winner for Life” at the reception and regular Rotary luncheon. Rotary pays for the reception and meals of the Winner and their guest, and Winners receive a plaque, but YOUmake the recognition more personal!
Your PeaceBuilder Committee has taken up the fight against sex trafficking. We invite you to join us in a potluck dinner on January 21 to celebrate successes in 2017 and rally around next steps. You will meet leaders from several community partners: Stolen Youth, Seattle Against Slavery, Genesis Project and International Justice Mission.
Saturday, February 3
10:00am-1:00pm @ Seattle Fire Station #22, 901 East Roanoke St.
Join Seattle Rotary Peacebuilders for the planting of the first peace pole in 2018!
Participate in the dedication, help plant the Rotary peace pole, and join a tour of the new fire station led by Seattle #4 member and SFD Chief Harold Scoggins.
Once a year we ask you to make two donations. One is to the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation (SRSF). The other is to The Rotary Foundation (TRF). If you have not yet made your donations, please consider doing so today. Thank you!
