In search of truth: Will Ludlam, Edelman Trust Barometer
September 19 at noon
The Hyatt Olive 8, 1635 8th Ave.
Globally, nearly seven in ten respondents among the general population worry about fake news or false information being used as a weapon, and 59 percent say it’s getting harder to tell if a piece of news was produced by a respected media organization.
This is just one of the fascinating discoveries in the 2018 Edelman Trust Barometer, a global measure of trust in government, business, NGOs, and media. The Barometer is showing an increasing polarization of trust throughout the world. Will Ludlam, head of Edelman’s Pacific Northwest region, will explain how this impacts our personal and professional lives in Seattle and beyond.
Don't miss the Committee Fair before and after the luncheon!
Seattle #4's membership, service, and programs committees will be featured at this week's luncheon. Drop by before or after the program to learn more about each committee's mission, meeting schedule, and how to get involved! The fair runs from 11:30 am-12:15 pm and 1:30 pm-1:45 pm in the foyer of the Hyatt Olive 8.
President Cindy Runger brought Nathan Donohue to the podium to introduce the day's speakers. In so doing, Cindy announced that Nathan is newly engaged.
Nathan introduced Murphy Jensen and Daniela Luzi Tudor, both recovering from addictions. The presenters spoke about their own stories of addiction and how they came to start WEconnect. They related how isolation and lack of connection feed the cycle of addiction and recovery and explained how successful recovery requires three factors: accountability, structure, and support and how WEconnect's apps provide all three.
It is my pleasure to introduce our newest member, Linda Sherran, Partnerships Manager for Operation Warm. Linda has been nominated by Dominik Musafia and Trent Mummery and her classification is Human and Community Services.
The nomination process to identify officers and at-large board members for the next year's Rotary Club Board of Directors, and Trustees for the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation is now underway. The election will conclude on December 5th at our annual membership meeting during the luncheon. Individuals may be proposed by club members or members may self-nominate. Nominations must be submitted in writing or by email no later than September 21st. Any questions and nominations can be referred to David Sievert at c_dsiebert@msn.com.

SRSF Opportunity Grant
The Seattle Rotary Service Foundation announced the opening of the 2018 Opportunity Grants cycle. This funding program works to be responsive to the preferences of our member donors and the needs of our community, recognizing that sometimes our usual structure of annual grants does not make funds available when special opportunities, emergencies, and unique needs arise.
The maximum grant will be $7,500 and the minimum is $500. All applications must be received by SRSF by December 1, 2018.
Applications for these grants must come through the regular Seattle Rotary Service Committees.
Registration is now open for the 2018-2019 Rotary Academy which will start this September. The Rotary Academy is a comprehensive self-paced study program of Rotary information — great for both new and experienced Rotarians and anyone considering club or district leadership positions.
For more information on committees, including those that do not have regular meeting times, see thecommittee page on our website. Meeting times and locations are subject to change, contact committee chairs for more information.
