FUN Community Service Projects

Every year, members of Fidalgo Island Rotary (aka: the FUN club!) host a booth at Waterfront Festival in Anacortes, Washington. The festival is a huge hit with locals and tourists alike, but kids especially love Rotary's booth, where they can build, decorate and sail their very own wooden boat. . Click "Read More" to hear what one festival attendee said when she sent the above picture!

Below is correspondence from our local contact in San Lucas, Dennis Evans. It's interesting to see the local perspective of the situation in Guatemala.

Dear Friends and Sponsors,

Here in San Lucas, we were not directly affected by the eruption of the Fuego volcano earlier this month.

The immediate reaction of the people after the tragedy was one of solidarity. Many people offered to collect items for the victims. All the secondary schools collected piles of tinned goods, toilet paper, diapers, packet foods, clothes, blankets and so on. Students from even the poorest families gave to help their brothers in need.

Arrgggh Matey, Are you ready for some family fun this summer? Head to Shipwreck Fest in Anacortes for a treasure hunt the whole crew will love. On Saturday, July 21st, bring the family to downtown Anacortes to plunder your way through more than 400 booths of antiques, treasures and art. Regarded as an eclectic premier flea market, Shipwreck Festival has offered highly desirable vintage pieces at affordable prices for nearly four decades. It is one of the first tiers in the antiques-buying chain, supplying furnishings and collectibles pulled from local barns, century-old homes and even used gear from marine fisherman. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 21st, shop for treasures such as polished antiques, upcycled furniture, and handcrafted items. You never know what you'll find! Presented annually by Fidalgo Island Rotary. Visit www.shipwreckfest.com for more info!  If you're interested in volunteering and getting involved with your Anacortes community, contact us at FIR.theFUNClub@gmail.com.

Have you ever wanted to volunteer with international projects abroad? Did you know Fidalgo Island Rotary is Award Winning in these types of humanitarian projects? Every year, we travel abroad with our network of Rotarians to help villages with clean water, educational supplies, and school structures. Our trips are safe, well organized and have a sense of purpose of doing good in the world. Last February, we delivered uniforms and school supplies to over 1700 kids in over 60 mountain village schools in Copán Honduras. Want to learn more or participate? It's as simple as donating $20 to sponsor one kid with school supplies for one year to traveling with us abroad to help deliver supplies.  Find more information at our Tuesday mornings breakfast club meetings or emailing us at FIR.theFunClub@gmail.com
