30 Years of Caring - From President Elect, John Sheller
Aloha 30! According to Wikipedia Aloha in the Hawaiian language means affection, peace, compassion and mercy.
With support from our community the Rotary Club of Maple Valley has been sharing it’s aloha spirit locally and globally since 1985. The funds we raised at this year’s Auction will directly benefit Maple Valley and Black Diamond children, families, seniors, visitors and those in need, through our donations of scholarships, food bank supplies, senior meals and much, much more!
Internationally we will continue Rotary’s efforts to eradicate polio in the few remaining regions where this crippling disease afflicts the most vulnerable. We will continue our health care partnerships in Cameroon, and our educational partnership with Imagine Scholar in South Africa. We continue to reach out across the globe for additional opportunities to make a difference.
To those who attended, thank you for joining me in learning about and supporting a unique venture benefitting kids and families eligible for assistance from our own Maple Valley Food Bank. The food bank is partnering with Seattle Tilth’s Auburn Farm Works, a local farm incubator program helping to launch apprentice farmers, in providing fresh local produce to our neighbors in need of a hand up. Support raised in our auction’s Fund-A-Need will provide the funding necessary for our area’s newest farmers to plan, prepare, grow and deliver their crop to the Maple Valley Food Bank.
Next July, Maple Valley Rotary will celebrate the start of its 30th year as a caring club. This Auction, Aloha 30! will make all that we intend to do next year possible. Thank you to our auction committee, our Rotarians, spouses/significant others, friends, Interact Students and numerous volunteers, for helping to be part of this proud legacy.
