Host Families are Wanted

Would you like to open your home to an exchange student this fall?  Rotary Youth Exchange is seeking up to three host families in the Everett H. S. catchment area for our 2019 - 2020 exchange student from Japan.  We are looking for families to host from September 1 - November 30th; December 1 - mid-March, 2020; and mid-March to June 30th.  Interested? Please call Janice Ellis at 425-330-7980, or email her at janiceellisathome@yahoo.com.

Would you or someone  you know  like to h0st our Japanese exchange student this fall?   The Everett Rotary Club is looking for 3 families that would enjoy the privilege of hosting our incoming exchange student.

Everett Rotary has a vibrant RYE program that has recently supported students to & from France, Denmark, Norway, Italy, Peru, S. Korea, and Taiwan.  All of our students have been fortunate to have great host families who have done a marvelous job of integrating each student into the fabric of their families and their lives.  This year, we are hosting Arisu, a female student from Japan.  Arisu is described as a hard-working student and an accomplished pianist.  We are really looking forward to our time with Arisu and the Rotary Club of Everett has almost everything in place to welcome Arisu - everything but her host families!

All of you who are experienced host families know that Rotary strives to have three host families for each student.  Right now, we are looking for Arisu's first host family.  The family must be in the Everett High School catchment area, which includes all of North Everett, south to the 41st street interchange, west to the Forest Park area (with the west boundary drawn by Pigeon Creek Rd).  An Everett H. S. boundary map is copy/pasted below.  All types of families make great host families - families with young kids, old kids, and no kids all qualify.  Single parent households qualify, too.  The most important criteria for a host family is a genuine interest in the cross-cultural experience of having an exchange student in the family's home.

Arisu will arrive the last week of August and will initially stay with me to get over jet lag, get introduced to the area, get registered for school, and somewhat settled.  School begins September 4th, so the target move in date to her first host family will be Labor Day weekend.  We are also hoping she can transition to her second host family on or about December 1st, which means she'll move to Host Family #3 will be in March, 2020.

There is an application, vetting and approval process for all host families. If interested, please contact  Janice Ellis at 425-330-7980, or email her at janiceellisathome@yahoo.com.
