The Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Burlington has voted to pledge $25,000 over a 5 year period towards the new Community Action facility in Burlington. Ken Johnson, President of the organization said, “The work that Community Action does is vital to our communities in Skagit County and we’re pleased to be able to support the project in this manner.”
Bill Henkel, Executive Director for Community Action said, “This donation is significant in many ways. Not only is the pledge amount incredibly generous but the fact that the Rotary Club of Burlington is endorsing a new services center in their city means a lot to our Board and staff. Thanks to Ken and to all the club members for what you do for our entire community.”
In response to the growing needs of our community, Community Action needs to raise $2.7 million by March 2018 to purchase the existing building at 160 Cascade Place in Burlington. Community Action’s mission is to foster and advocate for self-sufficiency among low-income people in Skagit County. Now in its third decade of service to our community, Community Action groups their circle of support into eight areas: Family Stability; Housing Support and Homeless Prevention; Financial Stability; Employability; Education and Literacy; Healthy Community; Food and Nutrition; and Community Engagement.
