Opening

President Teri welcomed the membership to the meeting and introduced our very own Rotary Brass, (Brad, Doug, Del and John).  They gave a rousing rendition of God Bless America to start the meeting.

A big thank you to Ann Jones for offering her home for the Rotary "Cruise" and to Marty and Gail Haines for their diligence in organizing it..  It was a wonderful setting on the beach of Chuckanut Bay.  And a big thank you to Doug Cole for breaking the group out in to smaller groups for some getting to know you exercises. A good time was had by all.

Announcements:

The Changing of the Guard will commence at the July 9th meeting.  Be sure to be there to thank President Teri for her stewardship and to welcome in President-elect Sandy McIntire.

Felicity Dye asked for host family volunteers for the next round of incoming exchange students.  2 students are coming to Bellingham, so 6 families will be needed. Sign up now and avoid the rush. Felicity guarantees a great time (or at least a memorable one).

Presentations:

Peter Theisen and Brian Griffin from the Major Project Selection Committee spoke.  They are calling for major project proposals.  Over the last 10 years our club as generated over $1.2 million in fundraising going toward our major projects that benefit the community, but the current vision is for a project that will also provide “hands on” opportunities for members to share their skill and talents.  Brian issued a reminder that no idea is too big or too "out there". The project does not need to be 100% funded by the club.  We may just start the ball rolling in partnership with other community organizations or local government.  As Brian says, "Big Things start with a VISION."  Please see additional information below:

Program:

It's that time of year again for The Rotary Club of Bellingham's Major Awards. Cue the royal trumpeters.

The Will Griswold Club Service Award was presented to Tom Grinstad for his tireless efforts as Editor of this very Tattler.  Yours truly appreciates Tom's editing to make my writing presentable. His curtsy was most presentable as well.

The David C. Morse Sr. Community Service Award was presented to Roland Trenouth.  Roland's contributions to Bellingham are myriad and span decades. Mike Plenkovich ran through a seemingly endless list of what Roland has contributed to the community. Man that guy is something else. Roland's bride of 50 years, Bonnie, was in attendance to celebrate this honor that he richly deserves.

An Honorary Paul Harris Fellow was presented to Don Anderson for 38 years of service above self leading our music program among other contributions to the club and community.  Don, your fingers deserved their rest today. Congratulations.

And last but not least, John Holtzheimer, our tireless Club Treasurer for the last 3 years, was awarded his 3rd Paul Harris Fellow.

The meeting was adjourned after a reminder that there is no meeting next Monday July 2nd. Remember that – NO MEETING NEXT WEEK! Though there may be a few, like the editor, who will show up and give himself a dope slap.
