Opening :
Standing tall, President Cathy rang to bell to bring us to order. Happy Birthday was sung by the club for Cathy’s birthday today (and Linda’s). As she was hidden behind the podium, not everyone got to see Cath's jaw drop as Shauna spilled the beans about the birthday.

Stand by for a major announcement: There will be NO meeting next week, September 2nd – Labor Day. Do you understand? Nobody else will be here for a meeting on 2 September 2019. So you might as well take the day off...
Website and Phone App instructions:
Here is a tutorial on how to login for the first time.  (Click here)  In order to login you need to know your user name and password in your Clubrunner account.  The user name is Yourfirstname.Lastname.264 unless you have changed it.  Example: Sandra.Lindhout.264  The password is initially set by clubrunner at 264 unless you have changed it.  Sandee can see your Username from my computer but not the password.  She can also change your password for you from her computer at your request if you run into problems.

Guests of Rotarians:

The membership enjoyed a New Member Talk by Zach von Schneidau -Cathy presented him with his Membership Certificate. –Zach was forgotten twice by Cathy and then given time for his talk. Zach went to WSU and Cesar Ritz College in Switzerland where he got the travel bug. After working and saving 3yrs he took a year off and moved to New Zealand and travelled the country three months in a camper van. Then to Australia where he learned to surf; then Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, motor biking in Vietnam, helped his mom run a “Pure Renewal Retreats” detox program in Hawaii, swam with whale sharks in Philippines, and made his way to many more countries around the world. He returned to Seattle broke and disillusioned with traffic and got a job with Diamond B Construction in Bellingham. He enjoys the work/life balance Bellingham has to offer: biking, back country skiing, etc. He looks forward to growing Diamond B (named changed recently to Harris Construction), help with Rotary projects, build an ADU and learn to sail, among many other things. Please make sure you welcome Zach.
Peter T introduced Todd Elsworth of Recreation Northwest. Todd recently sold off the Bellingham Traverse race and is engaging in a number of new initiatives: 1) Fairhaven Park Stewardship is rebuilding trails and a large bench /conversation piece. 2) Parkscriptions allows for healthcare providers to prescribe outdoor time for patients. 3) Recreation Northwest EXPO on May 2nd at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal provides free space to connect outdoor enthusiasts with outdoor vendors. They’re looking to expand into all of lower Fairhaven. 4) WA Outdoor Recreation Summit is lobbying at the state level to support the recreation economy. 5) Newly minted WA Outdoor Business Alliance is a new business membership program to help bolster the recreation economy. 6) Oct 12th, the first annual Great Outdoors Awards ceremony, a fundraising event at BTC, celebrating organizations and individuals that contribute to the outdoor recreation scene. This is a busy guy. What an informative talk. Thanks Todd.
