Past President, Teri Treat, opened the meeting in the absence of President Sandy who is visiting his daughter in Italy.  Teri reminded members that there will not be a meeting next week in observance of Veterans Day and put a plug in for members to step in as Sponsors for Vegas Night citing good exposure and other benefits that come with it. We did miss the decorative chapeaux that have adorned the one at the dais.

Sarah Maloney gave her new member talk. Sarah’s British parents immigrated to Ontario in the 60’s where she was born and began her education, notably as one of the first females to be accepted into an all-boys catholic boarding school. Following in her parents’ footsteps Sarah studied banking and management and took over her family’s business where she gained a keen fondness for automobiles. In 1997, she moved with her husband who was transferred from Microsoft in England to its Redmond Office. In 2004, Sarah became the Hospital Foundation Director in Sequim and a Boys and Girls Club Board member. She joined the Sequim Rotary Club in 2005 and served as President for two separate terms. In 2006, Sarah became a US Citizen and today serves as the Chief Development Officer for the Boys and Girls Club of Whatcom County. Welcome Sarah!
Our speaker Barry Meyers concluded the contemplation end of life series presentations with a recap of reminders including to review your estate plan frequently as life circumstances change as you get older and the legacy you want to leave may change with them. Make sure the location of your will or trust is known and that you have an adequate number of power of attorneys listed in succession. The primary tools for planning are wills and trusts. Wills are generally a set of instructions about how your estate is to be distributed and what contingencies are to be considered. Trusts are generally useful to ensure the quality of life for beneficiaries who may have disabilities impacting their ability to make decisions on their own. The big take away is, don’t wait to make your end of life plans. Do it now while you have the capacity and cognitive ability to do so.
