The International Service Committee announced a $1,000 grant request for funds to the American Red Cross in response to Hurricane Maria is being made to the RCOB Foundation.
The Social Committee announced a wine tasting and appetizers gathering at the Mt. Baker Theater Encore Room after the Simon & Garfunkel concert on Oct. 29 from 5-7 p.m. Click here for additional information.

Lisa Saar reminded us of the “Rise Against Hunger” work party on Sunday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Peace Health Education Center. The goal is to package 75,000 meals. So far $4,750 has been raised out of a goal of $32,000 to support this project. If you wish to contribute, checks made out to Rise Against Hunger may be sent to Lisa. Sandy McIntire reported that grant proposals for the Service Fund are being accepted. Grants are typically made for $1,000. Proposals may be made by accessing the RCOB’s website home page and viewing the policy manual in About Our Club, Contact Us etc.......

Students of the Month are now coordinated by Megan Stanfield and Kim Perry. Megan recognized Cathy Buckley’s 17 years of work organizing our Students of the Month program. For the first time, Options High School was included. Math was the category this month.

Program:
County Executive Jack Louws shared information about the collaborative and mostly cordial efforts between the County and City of Bellingham. Combined, they have over 1,800 employees. Some of the shared efforts include emergency medical services, the Emergency Management Coordination Center (located at the Bellingham Airport), parks (Lookout Mountain and the Stimson Preserve), Public Works (roads and water), Social Services, Law Enforcement and Judicial. The main focus of the ensuing question and answer period dealt with issues of the homeless.
