Opening
President Chapeau is clearly sensing the end of his reign. He is showing a sense of desperation knowing that he will not be able to use all of his incredible international clothing collection before his term is up.  Today he not only dressed as a Gondolier, but he bullied a normally semi-dignified past president into wearing a most undignified hat and Carnivale mask during the lunch time. Once the meeting began Chapeau made a hat and outfit change as he regaled the club with Italian minutia, including some baloney about Bologne.  Well it has been quite a ride around the world this year Sandy, Fun and educational.  We just wonder what remains in your closet.

A rather light attendance today.  Maybe it was the weather, maybe it was the memory of last weeks menu.  No visiting Rotarians, no visitors, is the word getting out?

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Noemi Ben, mother of member Steve Ban.  Noemi spoke to our club a number of times over the years as a Holocaust survivor.  She was 96 years young.  The club sends their condolences to the family.

Announcements:

There will be a Board of Directors meeting today at 4:30 at the Bellingham Legal Center, 805 Dupont St.

There will NOT be a regular meeting next week, June 17th,  due to the annual Rotary Cruise

The Classification Committee and the Board of Directors have approved the membership application of  Zach von Schneidan proposed by Lynda Hinton and John Inglis to fill the classification "Contractor".  He has visited the club many times.  He will be eligible for membership unless a letter of objection is received by Executive Secretary, Sandra Lindhout, 2200 Vining St., Bellingham, Wa.  98229 prior to June 22nd.

2019-2020 Planning:

Peter Theisen is the program chair for next year and is looking for help and ideas for programs and great speakers.

Shauna Naf  has described the club app which allows what’s on the club website to be on your phone NOW. She outlined the steps to get set up and how to use it. Big news there will be tech help each week for those who need help.  Remember there will not be a printed Roster distributed as usual in July.

Shauna announced that Doug Cole and Del VandeKerk will be taking photos June 10th for any member that wants to update their picture for our roster.  Contact Sandee is you want to sign-up.

Rotary Cruise, June 17th.  Marty Haines gave us a report on the upcoming cruise to Vendovi Island.  Remarkably, there were 3 or 4 crew spots still available.  If your schedule clears and you would like to go, call Marty- you might get lucky.  He thanked all of the participating skippers for hosting us.  If you have not been to Vendovi yet, you are in for a treat.  A lovely island and not far away.  If you think the Spanish named the island, think again.  Google Vendovi Island, an amazing story of how it got its name.  Remember, be at gate 3, by the BYC at 10:00 am

BREAKING NEWS; Ron Jepson stood during Happy Bucks to announce that our irrepressible Dominique Zervas is engaged to be married.  He offered no details and so President Sandy asked Dominique if she would like to comment. She confirmed the engagement, but moved on to other matters without revealing the who?  Your intrepid investigative reporter followed through and can now report, the lucky fella's name is Harry Roberts and he does not live in Bellingham. Yet.

GOOFY HAT DAY; Not to be outdone by President Chapeau, the Minister of Fun, staid, dignified Dennis Williams, donned a Sherlock Holmes deerstalker and pipe and regaled us with myriad facts about mystery literature.  Cost most of us five bucks I suspect.

Guests of Rotarians:

Gary Goldfogel introduced our speaker Mark Kuntz with Bellingham TheatreWorks and the Fairhaven Summer Repertory Theatre at The Firehouse

Peter Theisen introduced Mike Parker with Project Homeless Connect
Presentations:
Mike Parker received a Service Fund $1,000 in support of Project Homeless Connect.  The donation was sponsored by Peter Theisen.  The program has been operating for eleven years and last year they helped five hundred folks faced with homelessness with emergency assistance.

Our charming exchange students Carla and Rumbi are headed home. They were given a send off with our club banner, a certificate of participation and a photograph. They came to the microphone to thank the club for what they each described as a life changing experience.

A second Paul Harris Fellowship was awarded to incoming President Cathy Buckley.  Cathy let us know what a marvelous experience the Rotary International Convention was for her.  We are sure to get a more complete report when she takes office in July.

Program:

Mark Kuntz spoke on behalf of the Bellingham Theaterworks, a summertime repertory theater to be held in the Fairhaven Firehouse Cafe during the month of July.   Three classic plays will play in three consecutive days, six nights a week, for the entire month, a different play each day. The plays are Wit, by Margaret Edson,  The Clean House, by Sarah Ruhl, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, by Tennessee Williams.
All plays will be directed by Mark Kuntz who over a forty year period has directed 150 plays.  Professional actors will perform.  When asked by someone in the audience how much they are paid, Kuntz explained that he and others are not being paid, and the actors coming from other cities are paid a small “thank you amount”.  They are performing for the challenge and the fun of it.
Another question revealed that there are only 86 seats in the Fairhaven Firehouse, so you are advised to buy your tickets now. you can buy them on line at www.BellinghamTheaterWorks.org. although they are also available at the door if they are not sold out.  Admission is only $20.00,

I occurs to your reporter that this is one more example of the remarkable cultural opportunities we in enjoy in our amazing City. We encourage you to support and enjoy this opportunity.
